Trivia / Castlevania II: Simon's Quest

  • Beam Me Up, Scotty!: The line is "What a horrible night to have a curse", not "What a horrible night for a curse".
  • Dummied Out: There are graphics for an enemy in a mansion tileset, which resembles the "Franken" concept shown in an Anniversary Collection design document. Accordingly, it had 10 HP and only walked towards the player, making the ground shake then collapse. Additionally, there are graphics for Dracula's fangs as a sixth item. Dracula's fang would later appear in Harmony of Dissonance.note
  • Game Mod: Simon's Redaction by TheAlmightyGuru is remembered as a notable one. The text has been entirely rewritten, with the speed increased as opposed to one letter per word, and some clues were arranged to make it easier for players to make less cryptic and Guide Dang It! hints. Even The Angry Video Game Nerd considers this a major improvement. More recently, there is a Finnish translation and English Re-translation by Bisqwit that aims for greater text accuracy and QoL improvements such as an in-game map and battery saves.
  • Inspiration for the Work: Hitoshi Akamatsu said that it was Konami's own Maze of Galious.
  • Urban Legend of Zelda: Several gaming books and mags claimed that you could talk to townspeople who are hiding inside their houses by pressing up on the control pad when standing in front of a boarded-up door. However, there are no boarded-up doors in the game that respond like this.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • According to this commentary, the walking zombies that appear in town at night originally hopped around like Jiangshi, but people complained that they were too strong, so Hitoshi Akamatsu reluctantly toned it down.
    • According to design documents shown in Castlevania Anniversary Collection, the shield from the MSX2 Vampire Killer was planned to return, and there were more environmental hazards like collapsing bridges and strong winds that would have appeared at certain times of day.
