Trivia / Care Bears (1980s)

  • Crossdressing Voices: In at least one Spanish dub, the male Grumpy Bear is voiced by the female Rebeca Aponte. She reprises this role in Care Bears Journey To Joke A Lot.
  • Inconsistent Dub: The German dub of the DiC series suffers from this big-time, particularly in regards to changing character voices and genders:
    • Proud Heart Cat is male in this dub, but "his" voice is completely different in "Concrete Rain" compared to his/her other appearances in "Lucky Charm", "Dry Spell", and "The Old Man and the Lighthouse".
    • Grumpy Bear is voiced by an actress in "Split Decision", "The Last Laugh" and "The Night the Stars Went Out", but for his other appearances in "Magic Mirror" and "The Cloud Worm", he's voiced by a male actor as in the original, and speaks in his normal deep, baritone voice.
    • Cozy Heart Penguin is voiced by a male actor in three episodes: "The Last Laugh", "Drab City", and "The Old Man and the Lighthouse". To top it off, "his" voice sounds completely different in "The Last Laugh" (more of a "cutesy" falsetto) compared to the other two episodes mentioned. In her other two appearances, "Forest of Misfortune" and "Daydream", she's female as in the original.
    • In "Camp", "Split Decision", "Magic Mirror", and "Forest of Misfortune", Love-A-Lot Bear is erroneously male.
    • In "Forest of Misfortune", Treat Heart Pig is male, but in "Daydreams", she's female as in the original.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Believe it or not, the episodes of the original DiC series were originally 11 minutes, but since they were originally broadcast for syndication in the USA, they were cut down to 10 minutes. Only the 10-minute edited versions have been restored to DVD and currently available in English. However, the 11-minute uncut versions were broadcast in foreign markets (mostly Europe, including the UK on CITV), and were released to DVD in France and Germany (which use their original unrestored prints), albeit without the English audio.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: No characters other than the Care Bears themselves made the move from the DIC to the Nelvana show, as they are all legally DIC original characters.
  • She's a Man in Japan: In the French European dub of the DiC series, Lotsa Heart Elephant and Cheer Bear are male characters (and are both voiced by Roger Carel).
    • Also, Lotsa Heart is male in the Spanish European, Dutch, Danish, and Norwegian dubs of the DiC series, as well as the German and Swedish dubs of both the DiC and Nelvana series.
    • Cheer Bear is also male in the German dub of the DiC series.
    • Wish Bear is male in the German dub of both the DiC and Nelvana series.
    • Proud Heart Cat is male in the German and Spanish European dubs of the DiC series.
  • The Original Darrin: For most of the Nelvana episodes of the show Tenderheart Bear was voiced by Jim Henshaw, taking over from Billie Mae Richards from the DiC series and the first two films. However, Richards voiced Tenderheart again one more time in the Nelvana episode "The Care Bears' Book of Facts and Fables" during the final season.
  • The Other Darrin: The Latin American dub(s), big time: Both the DiC and the Nelvana series were dubbed in four different countries (Mexico for the DiC version and Venezuela, Chile and even Panamanote ) for the Nelvana version.
