Trivia / Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

Go To

  • Dummied Out: Unusually, instead of the developers porting the Super Mario 3D World inspired levels onto the 3DS and Switch ports, the game instead just replaces them with Super Mario Odyssey inspired levels instead for seemingly no other reason than to promote the latter game. The levels don't exist in the ports, but 3D World objects can still be found in the Switch port.
  • Shrug of God: Hiratake refuses to tell what's inside Toad's bag.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Very early in this game's development (around the time that Super Mario 3D World was being developed), this game was apparently going to be a Zelda related one staring Link. However, being included as special levels inside 3D World meant that the use of Link was ultimately denied. This meant that they had to come up with a new character who couldn't jump. The director recalled that the Captain Toad from Super Mario Galaxy wore a heavy backpack and the rest is history.
    • Captain Toad was originally supposed to be the only playable character, but then it was decided that they needed to change the story a little bit so it wouldn't have the exact same kind of plot that most Mario games follow. So the game's director decided to add another playable character, someone who hadn't been playable in this capacity. This just happened to be Toadette.
    • An early concept for the boss battle with Draggadon revolved around the fact that he's submerged in lava like he's taking a bath. Captain Toad would accidentally pull the plug and the lava would drain out, leaving Draggadon naked and exposed.
    • They originally wanted to make the whole game playable in first person but realized it was too complicated.
    • They thought about making the whole game a story told by Rosalina. They opted to make it a prequel to Super Mario 3D World instead.
    • One early concept artwork shows that Sprixie was originally going to be in as a secondary character of sorts.
