Trivia / Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew!

Go To

  • Author's Saving Throw: Alley-Kat-Abra's explanation in Final Ark that it was an Evil Twin who killed Little Cheese in the earlier Teen Titans story. Word of God says that they decided to do this instead of a full Retcon as an homage to Silver Age plotting.
  • Mutually Fictional: The Zoo Crew and Just'a Lotta Animals both considered the other to be fictional before they met up. Lampshaded by a visit to the Earth-C version of Gardner Fox to help explain the concept.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The original idea was dubbed Super-Squirrel and the Super-Animal Squad, based around the Just'a Lotta Animals. But because of the fact that these were parodies of existing characters, and this would lead to licensing issues, they instead decided to create completely separate, non-parody characters.
    • Pig-Iron was originally conceived as a villain before they decided to make him a member of the Zoo Crew instead.
    • Little Cheese was originally named Big Cheese, and he was actually mouse-sized with the ability to grow.
    • When Roy Thomas and Scott Shaw! were creating the comic, they came up with a Zoo Crew member who they never used: Whirlibird, a female bird with Spectacular Spinning powers who was based on Thomas' wife Danette.
    • Ruby-Spears planned an Animated Adaptation of the comic — which would have replaced Alley-Kat-Abra with Wonder Woman. A pilot script was written, but never produced.
    • Before DC's Executive Meddling, Shaw! and Bill Morrison had major plans for following up the Final Ark miniseries — a Legion of Super-Pets series would've chronicled the Zoo Crew (now trapped in "real" animal forms in the mainstream DCU) fighting various animal-themed supervillains, before Animal Man would've noticed something was off about them, and gotten Zatanna to reverse their transformations. This would've led into a 80-page "giant" comic with "reprints" of stories that didn't actually happen (including the Zoo Crew meeting their Evil Counterpart the "Bruise Crew", Little Cheese as a "super ghost", the Terrific Whatzit fighting in World War II, Deadmouse, and a story involving the Just'a Lotta Animals), leading into another mini-series featuring the Zoo Crew, along with various new resistance heroes, fighting to save the flooded Earth-26 from the tentacles of Starro once again...and save Pig-Iron, who'd been forced to fight on Starro's behalf, lest Starro flood what little of Earth-26 remained dry. Sadly, all of this went uncreated since DC didn't do a good job of marketing the Final Ark mini-series to start, and then used the subsequent low sales as justification for why they weren't going to do anything more.
