Trivia / Black Butler

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Ciel's English dub voice actress Brina Palencia also voices his mother, Rachel Phantomhive. Averted in the Japanese version, however, where Ciel and his mother are portrayed by different voice actresses.
  • B-Team Sequel: The new season will be animated by CloverWorks.
  • Crossdressing Voices:
    • You may know Ciel's Japanese voice actress to be that of Haruhi Fujioka. He is also voiced by Brina Palencia in the English dub.
    • Alois may sound a little like Fate Testarossa when he's putting on his "sweet, innocent child" act.
    • Grell is voiced by male actors in almost all versions (Jun Fukuyama in Japanese and Daniel Frederick in English) despite being a transgender woman.
  • Fake Brit: In the English dub, the actors are all American, mostly Texan. In J. Michael Tatum's case, it comes from a lifetime of watching Doctor Who and other British shows, and a British speech therapist when he was a child, who he speaks of a lot at conventions. This trope gets a humorous nod in the "Making of Black Butler II" OVA, although some of the Animated Actors are just faking different kinds of British accents. Furthermore, this is (so far) the only time Cherami Leigh has ever used a foreign accent for an entire performance of a character in her entire career.
  • Playing Against Type: John Swasey as a Bishōnen. instead of his usual roles as either a Cool Old Guy, middle-aged men, or Evil Old Folks.
  • Trans Character, Cis Actor: Grell, who is transfem, is voiced by Jun Fukuyama in Japanese and Daniel Fredrick in English, both of whom are cis male actors.
