Trivia / Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction

Go To

  • Cast the Expert: "The Wrestler" segment casts professional wrestler Terry Funk in the lead role.
  • Falsely Advertised Accuracy:
    • One episode presents the "Bride-to-be steals wedding gown from corpse, dies from toxic embalming fluid soaking into her skin" story, an urban legend dating back over half a century, as fact.
    • There was another one about a woman's mother disappearing from a hotel room. According to Snopes, it's centuries-old, but again Beyond Belief presented it as fact.
  • Irony as She Is Cast: "The Wrestler" stars Wrestling/Terry Funk, a major WWE star and champion and widely considered one of the most influential wrestlers in history, as a low-level fighter whose career never amounted to much and is dismissed by fans and other wrestlers as a loser.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The first season was released on DVD in August of 2007 (though it is now out of print), but no other seasons have been released. The show aired sporadically on the now-defunct Chiller Channel in the US. The entire series is now available on Amazon Prime Video, and as of October 2020 all four seasons are available on the Roku channel.
  • No Export for You: The 2020 revival has only aired in Germany (with Jonathan Frakes' segments being dubbed over in German to accommodate this) and as such is not available in English for the time being.
  • The Other Darrin:
  • Playing Against Type:
    • This is one of the few live-action roles of David Kaye, a voice actor. Instead of a villain or otherwise combat capable character, he plays a concerned husband.
    • Another voice actor doing a rare live-action appearance is Lee Tockar. Normally playing comical characters or villains, his character is depicted as a Jerkass comedian who is notably not funny.
    • Comedian Patricia Zentilli plays a college student who fears for her life from bad luck and a home invader, not played for laughs at all.
    • Comedian Rachel Reenstra plays a non-comedic mother in a story about a ghost warning her of a fire that almost kills her daughter.
  • Real-Life Relative: Husband and wife Rance Howard and Jean Howard both appeared in Episode 2, during the segment "The Viewing".
  • Screwed by the Network: During its original run in the US, the show often struggled in the ratings because Fox typically aired the show on Friday nights during the summer months, and would often go weeks between airing episodes.
  • Short Run in Peru: Season 3 aired in Germany a year before the US.
  • Un-Cancelled: Kind of; the show seemed to be canceled after the third season aired in 2000, only to be brought back out of nowhere in 2002.
    • The show was given a (as of 2022, seemingly one-off) revival in Halloween 2020 on German television.
  • Working Title: Early in production, the original name for the show was "Strange Truth: Fact or Fiction".
