Trivia / Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

• Playing Against Type: Robert Englund, best known for playing Freddy Krueger, plays an Expy of Sam Loomis.
• Stillborn Franchise: Not only is it a straight example (as noted below), Leslie lampshades it when he talks about the wannabe slashers that only had one killing spree in them.
• What Could Have Been: A Kickstarter campaign launched in the summer of 2012 for a sequel titled Before the Mask: The Return of Leslie Vernon. Robert Englund was slated to reprise his role, and Kane Hodder had signed on to return, presumably for a part more substantial than his cameo in the first film. The filmmakers discussed some of the ideas they had for the film in this interview with Jason Jenkins for Bloody Disgusting. While they said that their planned sequel will likely never be made into a movie by this point (the actors had grown visibly older, meta satire of the slasher genre had become old hat), it has been turned into a six-issue comic book.
