- Overtook the Manga: Batman: Return of the Joker was published after Batman (1989) but before Batman Returns. Presumably Sunsoft just wanted to make another game.
- Similarly Named Works: The Batman: Return of the Joker games are not to be confused with the Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker movie.
- What Could Have Been: The NES Batman game had a prototype version. The prototype one had numerous cutscenes that had a more comic-accurate Batman interacting with the Kim Basinger and Jack Nicholson Vicki Vale and Joker. The final fight isn't with Joker, but with the ninja henchman before him (he isn't named, but is supposed to be Batman villain Firebug) and the game ends with Batman confronting Joker and putting him out of commission with a right hook.
