Trivia / Bakugan: Battle Planet

  • Colbert Bump: The show (and the franchise in general) became something of a talking point after Nintendo made a whole event out of announcing a tie-in game.
  • Executive Meddling: Spin Master Co-Ceo Ronnen Harary confirmed in an interview that the relaunch for Bakugan was retooled from the single 22 minute story in each episode to two 11 minute ones in each episode and the show was to introduce more comedic element. In an interview, he explained:
Harary: And then the other part was working very closely with the broadcasters. So originally, when you watch the first four seasons of Bakugan, they're 22-minute episodes. And Cartoon Network came to us early about two years ago when we re-approached them about relaunching it, and they said, you know, guys, the landscape has changed; kids are watching things in much more bit sizes, and why don't you re-change the format to do them in 11s rather than 22s. And at first-my philosophy is, never change anything if it's not broken, but they are close to the customer and we listened to what exactly they said, and so we changed the format. And then we did something also slightly differently. The marketplace has changed. Kids want comedy, right? Comedy is really important in shows today. And so when we actually did the writing for Bakugan this time around, we brought in US writers and we did all the writing in California, and then we sent over the scripts to the animators in Japan. And it was very much a collaborative production.
  • Friday Night Death Slot: This show was given a Saturday morning premiere slot at 7am before moving to Sundays. The second season was given a slot at 6:30am on Sundays (the same time slot Mega Man: Fully Charged initially aired at).
  • Invisible Advertising: Cartoon Network only advertised the Sunday series premiere and the weekday morning bomb and left the rest of the series completely advertised. After the show finished its nearly three month hiatus that started in May, Cartoon Network never advertised its return. Coupled with the Sunday morning death slot, this caused its already poor ratings to dip to abysmal levels.
  • Monster Jam debuted a monster truck designed after Dragonoid on January 12, 2019 to promote the anime.
  • Remake Cameo: In the Hungarian dub, Károly Moser (who voiced Dan in the original series) is instead Strata.
  • Role Reprise:
    • Jason Deline reprises the role of Dragonoid from the original series.
    • Similarly, Marco Balzarotti also comes back as Dragonoid in the Italian dub.
  • Screwed by the Network: Cartoon Network has become infamous for giving bad treatment to third-party action cartoons. Despite the Executive Meddling the network already imposed on the show as its international broadcaster, Bakugan was stil given the same apathetic treatment as Cartoon Network's acquired slate. New episodes premiered at 7am EST on Saturdays, at a time when the target audience might still be asleep.
    • Inverted when Season 2 premieres were broadcast at 6:30 am Eastern on Sundays, but Cartoon Network's YouTube channel would begin to stream new episodes at 7pm on Thursday nights to compensate until episode 11.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • According to the official Bakugan page, Serpenteze was planned to be owned by Shun rather than Masato.
    • Barbetra was originally going to be named Queen Bee.

Fun Facts:

  • The Subterra faction was removed in Battle Planet becomes the Attribute was deemed unpopular by Spin Master.
  • Cimoga's name was created by the winner of the first 2018 Bakugan Invitiational, Cimoooooooo.
