Trivia / Avril Lavigne

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Famously in the "Girlfriend" music video, in which she plays both the nerdy girlfriend and the narrator who steals her boyfriend.
    • There are also a few shots of her as a businesswoman of some kind in the "He Wasn't" video, shocked at the main Avril's actions.
    • "I Fell In Love With The Devil" has Avril as a hearse driver and the dead woman she's driving for.
  • Actor-Inspired Element: She came up with the plot for the "When You're Gone" music video.
  • Banned in China: She was nearly banned in Malaysia, for her "influence on youth".
  • Breakaway Pop Hit: Her song "Keep Holding On" did much better than the Eragon movie it was tied with.
  • Creator Backlash: Zig-zagged with Under My Skin. She doesn't seem to hate the album, but she wasn't a fan of how bleak and depressing the record was full of angsty / heartbreak songs. She even admits that the change of style in The Best Damn Thing was solely done so she could have fun with music again.
  • Creator Couple: A few of the guys she has dated or married end up working on her albums, including Deryck Whibley on The Best Damn Thing, Chad Kroeger on Goodbye Lullaby and MOD SUN on Love Sux.
  • Creator Recovery: After Under My Skin was made while she was dealing with a bad break-up, The Best Damn Thing was more upbeat and her just wanting to have fun with her music.
  • Cut Song:
    • "Let Go" the song doesn't appear in the Let Go album.
    • She wrote a song called "Breakaway" for Under My Skin but decided not to use it. Kelly Clarkson used it for her second album, and enjoyed lots of success with it. In general Avril has a long history of giving cut songs from her albums to other artists.
  • Development Hell: Her recording company pushed back Goodbye Lullaby by about a year.
  • Dye Hard: Is naturally brunette (as shown on Let Go and Under My Skin) but dyed her hair blonde around the time of The Best Damn Thing and has kept it that way since, with added green highlights in the music video for "Smile" and dip-dyed red tips during the time of Love Sux.
  • Enforced Method Acting: She was hungover while recording "Give You What You Like", which made her vocals more real and raw during takes.
  • Follow the Leader: It's been said that "Here's To Never Growing Up" takes a few cues from Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" and Taylor Swift's "22".
  • Meaningful Release Date: The "Head Above Water" single, which Avril wrote when she was bedridden with Chronic Lyme Disease in which she thought she was gonna die, was released on her thirty fourth birthday.
  • Pop-Culture Urban Legends: There's the infamous conspiracy that she committed suicide years ago and has been replaced by a lookalike.
  • The Red Stapler: Avril wears something in a music video -> people want it -> this.
  • She Also Did: Co-wrote "Breakaway" by Kelly Clarkson note , "I Will Be" by Leona Lewis, "Dancing Crazy" by Miranda Cosgrove. She also wrote "All Because of You" and "I Don't Wanna" by Puffy AmiYumi.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • She originally planned to do country music, but then decided Pop Punk would be more commercially successful.
    • The "I'm With You" video ended originally with Avril leaving the club to meet her bandmates and walking off into the distance with them. This was cut, so the video now ends with her leaving alone. The alternate version of the video was leaked onto the internet.
