Trivia / Aquí no hay quien viva

Go To

  • Actor Leaves, Character Dies: After some time in coma, the character of Paloma was Killed Off for Real when negotiations to bring Loles León, the actress who played her, back into the series went bunk.
  • Billing Displacement: Llum Barrera (Carmen) appears in several episodes of Season 3 and in every episode of Season 4, but for some reason, she was always credited in both seasons as a guest star.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • Creators Alberto and Laura Caballero are the first to admit they are not fans of the final season, stating that the crew and the cast were tired of the series. They also believe that the main reason for the drop in quality in the final season was caused by the departure of Maria Adanez (Lucia), Daniel Guzman (Roberto) and Diego Martin (Carlos).
    • A few years after the ending of the TV series, Eduardo Garcia (Josemi) abandoned his acting career to become a rapper, and released a diss track against members of the cast and crew of La que se Avecina and Aqui no hay quien Viva, more specifically creator Alberto Caballero and actor Fernando Tejero (Emilio). According to Garcia, he was forced to work longer than was legally permitted for a child, exceeding 24 hours.
  • Creator Thumbprint: Both here and in daily comedy La sopa boba, which aired on the same channel and was from the same production company, characters became hooked on soap opera La despechada.
  • The Danza: Isabel Ordaz playing Isabel Ruiz, Daniel Ballesteros playing Daniel Rubio and Amparo Pacheco playing Amparo (Roberto's grandmother).
  • Executive Meddling: According to co-creator Laura Caballero and actress Malena Alterio, a supermarket allowed the series to show the characters using their bags, but on one condition: that they never appear in the hands of one of the homosexual characters.
  • Hey, It's That Sound!: Vicenta's farts' sound effect is taken from Oddworld.
  • Real-Life Relative: Mauri's mother was played by Luis Merlo's real-life mother María Luisa Merlo, and Alicia's mother was played by Laura Pamplona's real-life mother Amparo Pamplona.
  • Romance on the Set: Series creator Alberto Caballero dated Maria Adanez (Lucia) during the show's first four seasons. After Adanez left the series, the couple broke up and Caballero began dating Vanesa Romero (Ana), who had been on the series since Season 3.
  • Screwed by the Network: The series was broadcast by Antena 3. In 2006, the Spanish communication group Mediaset bought 15% of the production company. This, added to the intentions of producer José Luis Moreno to leave the broadcaster Antena 3, ended up forcing the writers to end the series. Although the rights to the series and characters were with broadcaster Antena 3, the contracts for the cast and crew were with Moreno. Because of this, the cast and crew met the following year to work together on a new series with different characters and scenarios on the Telecinco broadcaster, entitled La que se avecina.
  • Star-Making Role: José Luis Gil already had a long career as a voice actor under his belt when Aquí no hay quien viva launched (e.g. he dubbed Graham Chapman in Life of Brian and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story), but it was his run as Juan Cuesta that really turned him into a household name in Spain.
  • Troubled Production: The cast and crew in general do not have good memories of the filming conditions of the series, especially in the third season, which had more than thirty episodes ordered by the network at the last minute because of the huge success, without giving the writers advance notice. There were seasons that started shooting with just one episode written. Because of this, the cast had to work even on weekends, and with many of the cast members feeling sick from the stress.
  • Underage Casting:
    • Fernando Tejero played Emilio and Eduardo Gómez played Emilio's father Mariano. Gómez was only sixteen years older than Tejero.
    • Amparo Moreno, the actress who portrayed Toñi, Paloma's mother, is only a year older than Loles León, who played Paloma.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Originally the series was going to be a half-hour sitcom, with only two groups of characters: the couple who move into the building (Lucia and Roberto) and a family with whom they become enemies (Juan Cuesta, Paloma and their two children). However, when the network demanded that the series have 50-minute episodes, the writers were forced to create dozens of new main characters to justify the long duration.
    • Emilio was originally supposed to have a less attractive physical appearance, but the producers and writers dismissed this as they liked the work of actor Fernando Tejero.
    • Vanesa Romero was originally signed to only appear in five episodes of Season 3, but ended up continuing to recur in Season 4 and was promoted to series regular in the fifth and final season.
    • If it hadn't been for Mediaset buying 15% of the production company, the series would likely have continued to have new seasons until the present day, as is the case with the successor series La que se avecina.
    • According to actress Eva Isanta (Bea), when Aqui no hay quien viva was canceled by Antena 3, the cast and crew believed that they would simply do the sixth season on another network. However, over the months following the cancellation, they found this to be impossible due to legal and copyright issues, forcing the cast and crew to create a new series with different characters on Telecinco: La que se avecina.
    • Alberto Caballero stated in 2023 that actress María Asquerino walked away from the show after the first table read, unhappy with the script. She was supposed to play the part of Vicenta, which ultimately went to Gemma Cuervo.
