Trivia / Amityville: The Awakening

Go To

  • The Danza: Bella Thorne as Belle Walker.
  • Screwed by the Network: The Weinstein Company proved indecisive regarding the film's release, which explains why they kept delaying the release date. They ended up dumping the film on Google Play for free before giving it a very brief theatrical release on October 28, 2017 for that day only.
  • The Shelf of Movie Languishment: Originally shot in 2014, the film was meant to come out in January 2015, but the release date shifted five or six times over a three year period, until finally getting an international theatrical release in June 2017 and a limited one in the United States four months later.
  • Unperson: Harvey Weinstein's executive producer credit was ostracized for reasons that should be obvious.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • When the project was first set up at Dimension Films, it was meant to be a completely different film in the form of Amityville: The Lost Tapes. As that title suggested, it was going to be a Found Footage film where an aspiring news reporter leads a group of experts into the infamous house, only for things to go horribly wrong. Pre-production went nowhere and the entire idea was later discarded. The writers for the aborted project, Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands, still have producing credits on the revamped film.
    • The first cut was awarded an 'R' certificate, leading to the studio to edit it down to get a PG-13 certificate.
    • The film itself was intended to be the first wide-theatrical release for the Amityville franchise since the 2005 remake of the original film.
