Trivia / Allegra's Window

Go To

  • Acting for Two: With the exception of Kathryn Mullen as Allegra, most of the puppeteers performed multiple characters. Pam Arciero played Lindi and Sonata, Martin P. Robinson played Riff, Clef, and Flugie, Anthony Asbury played Rondo, Poco, and Woofer, Tim Lagasse played Mr. Cook and Tweeter, and Heather Asch played Vi, Aria, and Allegra's grandma.
    • Tweeter, Woofer, and Aria's singing voices were done by Bob Stillman, Harry Burney, and Andrea Frierson respectively, who also played Reed, Ellington, and Miss Melody.
    • Joanne Baum played both Encora and Dr. Metronome, the latter only appearing in "Strange Vet Fellows".
  • Blooper: In some of the show's earlier episodes, it was common to see some of the puppet characters (usually Allegra and Lindi) singing during some of the group songs, but their voices aren't heard.
  • The Cast Showoff: The human cast all have stage musical experience, most notably Bob Stillman as Reed, and get a chance to sing in every episode.
  • Completely Different Title: Allegra no Tobira (Allegra's Door) in Japan, possibly the result of a mistranslation as the original title referred to how each episode usually began and ended with Allegra looking out her bedroom window.
    • Allegras Freunde (Allegra's Friends) in Germany.
    • Świat w oczach Allegry (The World in Allegra's Eyes) in Poland. A shortened title Świat Allegry (Allegra's World) was also used in MiniMini airings of the show in the same country.
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: Some sources refer to "Wonderful Day" as the show's theme song. While it's heavily used in the show and an instrumental is used as the ending theme, it was never used as the opening theme.
  • Creator's Oddball: The only puppetry-based show created by Jumbo Pictures, which normally does animation. That said, Jim Jinkins, the show's creator, is no stranger to puppets, having previously worked as a puppeteer for another show for one of Nickelodeon's first original shows, Pinwheel
  • Cut Song: "You're Growing", a song from the pilot, was never reused in the series proper.
  • The Danza: The children playing Allegra's classmates at daycare all went by their real first names.
  • Early-Bird Release: "Mr. Cook's Christmas" made its debut on the VHS release Allegra's Christmas before airing on TV one year later.
  • In Memoriam: The final episode "Mr. Cook's Christmas" is dedicated to Sam Bagarella, the show's art director.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Although there hasn't been any home media release of the series apart from a few long out-of-print VHS releases, the first season is available on iTunes and Prime Video. Seasons 2 and 3 did show up on the Noggin app when it launched before being pulled for unknown reasons in 2020. The following year, the series was added to Paramount+, but then removed from the service in 2023.
    • The three direct-to-video Clip Show specials, Storytime Sing-Along, Play Along with Allegra and Friends, and Sing Along with Allegra and Lindi have been out of print since the late nineties and as they're not considered part of the show's episode count, they aren't included with any digital or streaming releases of the show. While Storytime Sing-Along is available on Archive.org, the other two are nowhere to be found, with Sing Along with Allegra and Lindi starting to fetch high prices on eBay.
    • A soundtrack, Shake Your Doodles: Allegra's Favorite Songs was released on CD and cassette in 1996 by Sony Wonder at the same time as the Gullah Gullah Island soundtrack. While the Gullah Gullah Island CD was reissued by Kid Rhino in 1997 after Nick and Sony's deal was over, the Allegra's Window CD was never reissued (as the show was no longer airing new episodes) and tends to run for high prices online.
  • Missing Episode: A pilot was shot, but never aired on television. Clips of it appear at the beginning of the season two wrap tape for the series, which can be found on Archive.org.
  • Non-Singing Voice: While Tweeter, Woofer, and Aria were puppeteered by Tim Lagasse, Anthony Asbury, and Heather Asch, their singing voices were performed by Bob Stillman, Harry Burney (only for the first season), and Andrea Frierson.
  • Out of Order: Most of seasons two and three were not aired in their production order; the episodes were in their correct order on Paramount+.
  • Reclusive Artist: While most of the show's cast are on various social media here and there and/or occasionally do interviews or appearances, Joanne Baum (Encora) is nowhere to be found online and hasn't had any known credits since appearing in the Broadway revival of Bells Are Ringing in 2001.
  • Screwed by the Network: Production came to an abrupt end after Season 3 when Disney bought out Jumbo Pictures.
  • What Could Have Been: The few clips of the pilot available include earlier designs for Allegra and Rondo, Lindi was originally named "Twila", and Reed was originally named "Abe".
