  • Like Komichi Akebi's mother, author Hiro's mother is a dressmaker in real life and has created school uniforms. She inspired the whole story by telling him that back in her childhood, it was customary for Japanese families to make their children's school uniforms themselves, and that her own sailor uniform was tailor-made by her aunt.
  • The manga's habit of depicting drawn-out sequences in multiple frames, even for simple actions like Komichi tying her hair back, is not casual, as Hiro had originally studied to be an animator. He was especially influenced by Kyoto Animation's works and Kamichu! (whose visual traces can be obviously noted in Akebi), before deciding to become a manga artist instead.
