• What Could Have Been: The author's notes at the end of chapters revealed many elements that got changed. Some of the more notable examples:
  • While Kilat's survival was planned from the start, the author did toss around the idea of actually killing her off, with her dying peacefully in Joshua's arms. This changed after the author decided that Joshua needed someone to keep him grounded and sane.
  • During the meeting concerning humanity, Joshua originally went into detail about their military and weaponry before the author decided to cut it. If the author's later response to a reviewer about it is any indication, it would've caused a substantial shift in the storyline, a direction he didn't want to go in.
