Trivia / Agnetha Fältskog

  • Breakup Breakout: Subverted. She was a celebrity in Sweden prior to ABBA, plus the rest of continental Europe was hungry for more ABBA-adjacent releases, so she ended up having all her post-ABBA success there. It’s a different story outside of Europe, though, as all of her singles and albums stalled on the charts. There was an attempt to have her break into the US market as a solo artist with I Stand Alone, but it didn’t work out.
  • Career Resurrection: Had two outside of mainland Europe - one with My Colouring Book in 2004 and another, arguably bigger one with A in 2013.
  • Channel Hop: Went from being signed to Cupol in the 1960s and 1970s to being signed to Polar in 1983, to being signed to WEA in 1987, to being signed to Universal in The New '10s. (Some of her compilation albums were signed over to Columbia).
  • Contest Winner Cameo: The official music video for "Dance Your Pain Away" features videos of fans dancing to the song that had won a contest to be featured.
  • Executive Meddling: Cupol meddled with the track listing of Elva kvinnor i ett hus to attract more sales (and thus more revenue) - some songs had to be cut, and a Translated Cover Version of ABBA's "SOS" had to be put on the album.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Raskenstam, her only feature film, never released outside of Scandinavia (and even there it was never released on DVD). A Swedish TV airing is circulated in places like Youtube, albeit without subtitles.
  • Romance on the Set: Met Björn Ulvaeus on the set on a TV special in 1969, with their relationship ultimately being a catalyst to launching ABBA. In 1987, she had a romance with the Record Producer of her album I Stand Alone, Bruce Gaitsch. Gaitsch speaks highly of her to this day.
