Trivia / Afterlife with Archie

  • Creator's Favorite: In his response to fan letters, Sacasa stated that Cheryl is his favorite character so she would live... for now.
  • Development Hell: A film adaptation was in the works at one point but it is unknown whether it still is.
  • Executive Meddling: Apparently the last two pages of #6 had to be rewritten after the editor found the story to be too dark. Considering that the issue we actually got ends with Sabrina about to become the Bride of Cthulhu while the series at large has shown graphic violence and even incest before, one wonders what was left out.
  • Follow the Leader: The success of the series prompted Archie Comics to take bolder and more artistic risks with its tried-and-true properties, resulting in the development of Riverdale and companion comic Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (which has its own television adaptation). Not bad for a comic book that (as of June 2021) only has ten issues out in stores.
  • Schedule Slip: Six issues were released between Fall 2013 and Fall 2014. As of 2023 (and counting), only four further issues have come out, with long delays in between each. Archie Comics president Mike Pellerito, in an August 2015 ComicBook.com interview, could only state, "When these books are ready, they're ready and we'll go." It doesn't help that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is working on at least three different shows.
  • Sleeper Hit: Many readers and comic reviewers were very skeptical of this series before it came out due its bizarre premise. The series has met with critical acclaim and high sales, with reports of selling out four issues in a row and even the seventh issue (the one where the series returned from its brief hiatus). Its success along with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is responsible for starting the Archie Horror imprint.
