Trivia / Ace Attorney (2016)

This page is for trivia about Ace Attorney (2016).

  • Acting for Two:
    • In the Japanese version, the judge and his brother share a voice actor.
    • Both Dahlia and Iris are played by Dani Chambers.
  • Ascended Fanon: It is commonly assumed by fans that Edgeworth was adopted by the von Karma family after his father's death, though the games never confirmed this contrary to popular belief. The anime adaptation explicitly has it be the case.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices:
    • Cody Hackins is played by Shizuka Ishigami and Kara Edwards in Japanese and English, respectively.
    • The grade and middle school versions of Phoenix, Edgeworth, and Larry are all played by women in the English dub. Averted in the Japanese version, where their usual actors play the part.
    • Christopher Sabat voices an anime-exclusive female character, Goldy Gerwitz, in the English dub. Averted in Japanese, where she's played by Kimiko Saito.
  • Distanced from Current Events: According to Shu Takumi, the reason for the earthquake from the DL-6 incident being Adapted Out was due to a major earthquake occurring two years before the first season's airing.
  • Meaningful Release Date: Both seasons of the anime do this, the second one moreso.
    • The first season of the anime was released in 2016, which is when all but "Rise From the Ashes" of the first game takes place (although the first game takes place in summer through winter, not spring when the anime was released; the dates of the first three cases were changed to coincide more closely with the spring airdate).
    • The second season, released in October of 2018 and covering the third game of the series, has many of the episodes' airdates match with the actual dates of the cases. Episodes covering "The Stolen Turnabout" aired in October 2018, "Recipe for Turnabout" aired in November (the date this case happens is November 2018 in the anime, instead of January 2019 in the game), "Northward, Turnabout Express" aired in December (the anime-exclusive case takes place on December 31st), and "Bridge to the Turnabout" started airing on February 2019.
  • Playing Against Type:
  • The Other Darrin: In both the Japanese and English dubs, every single character who's had a voiced appearance in the main series of games has undergone a change of casting. Particularly justified with the English version, with Funimation handling the dubbing and using its pool of Texas-based actors rather than the L.A.-based actors from the games.note
  • Promoted Fanboy: Dahlia and Iris' English VA Dani Chambers has done playthroughs for most of the Ace Attorney games, including some teamups with Let's Player Pharaoh2091, prior to getting the role.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor: In the English dub, the Camp Gay chef Jean Armstrong is voiced by the openly gay J. Michael Tatum.
