Color change tails required.

"Beyond the waves, beneath the surf, into the deep blue... Follow the fabulous fins of Mermaze to discover something AMAZING! Did you know mermaids are just like us? They love fashion, games, sports and so much more..."

Mermaze Mermaidz is a doll line with an attached Web Original series that can be found on the official Mermaze YouTube channel that centers around the first 5 dolls, Kishiko, Riviera, Harmonique, Shellnelle, and Jordie, who live in Mystic City. They go on a quest to save their home after celebrity mermaid Orra grants them color changing powers.

MGA Entertainment released the line in April 2022. The doll line consists of 5 main mermaids who each represent a different modern day fashion style.

Mermaze Mermaidz provides examples of:

  • Aerith and Bob: Everyone but Kishiko and Jordie have mystical names.
  • All-CGI Cartoon: The episodes are all animated in CGI.
  • Childhood Friends: Kishiko and Jordie are old camp friends.
  • Chromosome Casting: All the dolls are female.
  • Covers Always Lie: Harmonique has braids in some promo photos, but not in the dolls proper.
  • The Gimmick: The color-changing tails are what make the toys stand out, along with the mermaid theme.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: After receiving their color-changing powers, the girls aren't sure how to make it happen and have to learn how.
  • How We Got Here: The first episode begins with a flash-forward to the girls gaining their color change abilities.
  • Magitek: All of Mystic City runs on magical color and light that connects all the buildings, so once it starts being drained, the future of life in the city is endangered—there wouldn't be any concerts, fashion shows, movies, or sports without the color magic, among other things.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: The theme song clearly states: "Forget what you thought about who we are..."
  • Pink Is Feminine: Kishiko, Shellnelle, and Harmonique, all wear pink and are fairly girly.
  • Super-Empowering: Orra unlocks the other girls' powers with her own color-changing abilities.
  • True Blue Femininity: Shellnelle wears blue.
  • Water Is Womanly: The franchise focuses on mermaids, all of whom are hyper-feminine and (unsurprisingly) have an aquatic theme. There are no mermen in the series.
