Timeline / Tales of Kaimere

Ancient Prehistory

  • A Portal swarm in the Known World sent out satellites to improve its local ecosystem, some of which were sent out to the stars.
  • A satellite swarm of the Portal lands on late Devonian Earth, replicating local flora and fauna onto Kaimere. The introduced plants replace the purple algae as the Portal's food source. Fungi, Trilobites, Sea Scorpions, and armored-fish harvested from Earth

First Dynasty

  • The ecology of the Known World was stable enough that the Portal ceased harvests from Earth. Six new branches of tetrapods evolved from a common ancestor with amphibians and amniotes The derived clades of life formed the First Dynasty of Kaimere.
  • 272-255 MYA: A world-wide drought followed by a massive asteroid impact causes the first mass extinction, wiping out 90% of all life on Kaimere.
  • The portal began a spike of harvesting from late Permian Earth to stabilize the Known World ecosystem.

The Permian Dynasty

  • A harvest from Earth brought in Permian synapsids to take the place of megafauna lost on Kaimere.
  • The Great Dying on Earth paused any harvests through much of the Triassic period.
  • A large continent separated from the portal's region and headed north. It split into the Polar continent, the Permian continent, and a third continent that partially sank and became the Permian Islands.
  • Mass extinction of unknown cause 200 million years ago, leading to a new harvest of derived dinosaurs from Jurassic Earth.

The Tyrant Dynasty

  • The ecology was based around Hadrosaur nesting colonies, with Tyrannosauruses and Triceratops also establishing themselves thanks to a large amount of Hadrosaurs.
  • 40 MYA: Parkadia splits off from Kaishel and moves northbound.
  • 30 MYA (potentially earlier): Minor volcanic activity in the known world caused minor localized extinctions in Ni'Kar, causing the portal to harvest mammalian megafauna from Cenozoic North America. Among the surviving arrivals are entelodonts, adaptiform primates, pangolins, Hyenadonts, nimravids, basal rhinos, Leptictids, and parrots.
  • 15 MYA: Shifting continents, volcanic activity, and a volatile climate caused the collapse of the Hadrosaur nesting sites, bringing down many of the giant dinosaur megafauna that were dependent on the Hadrosaurs.

Post Dynastic Extinction

  • 14.2 MYA: Harvest from North America. The arrival of American gomphotheres, chalicotheres, camels, bear-dogs, baleen and macroraptorial whales, basal walruses, Desmostylians, sirenians, and Otodus megalodon.
  • 13.7 MYA: Harvest over the North Atlantic Ocean.
  • ~12 MYA Arrival of Titanosaurs from Kairul and Megaraptors from Arvel put competition and strain against mammal browsers.
  • 12.3 MYA: Harvest from Central Asia.
  • 10.3 MYA: Harvest from South Africa.
  • 8.2 MYA: Harvest from the west coast of North America and off the east coast of Asia. Arrival of Serenians.
  • 7.1 MYA: Harvest from the South Pacific Ocean.
  • 6.1-5.9 MYA: Massive run-off of phosphorus causes magic and algae boom in the nearby seas, killing off a massive amount of fish and leading to a new harvest from South America. Arrival of terrestrial and aquatic sloths, terror birds, ancient piranhas, toxodons, litopterns, and Dinomyid rodents.
  • 5.5-1.5 MYA: A stable anchored period with no harvest, considered by many to be a Dynasty.
  • 1.5-1.45 MYA: Harvest from Southeast Asia caused by cooling climate, bringing in new chalicotheres, Steppe Mammoths, tigers, Asian black bear cousins, Gigantopithecus, and Homo erectus. An increased extinction rate causes the Earth portal to expand to Sahul, bringing in derived marsupials and other Australian animals.
  • 805-770 KYA: Arriving of intelligent Homo erectus in the Arvel Highlands, who hunted unprepared megafauna like mastodons to extinction in the area. Harvest from Northern Europe. Arrival of cave lions, cave bears, hyenas, more Steppe Mammoths, and Palaeoloxodon.
  • 255-248 KYA: The arrival of the tough Houze Grass from Kairul into Nikar, followed by the co-evolved megafauna like Ghlanos and Uktan. Harvest from Northern Africa. Arrival of ancient humans, leopards, African Buffalo, and common hippopotamus.

Age of the First Children

  • 15,000 years ago: The First Children arrived in Parkadia mountain ranges after their original island was destroyed by volcanic activity, but forced to the highland by local residents after a failed initial conquest. They headed to the Qajarth peninsula, killing off the megafauna along with the majority of native people and sealing their new home off from mainland Arvel with the Celestial Wall. This started the Golden Age of First Children.
  • 11,000 years ago: The portal started to harvest from North America to replenish the Qajarth Peninsula. Replicated megafauna like Smilodon and mastodon were slaughtered after their rampage and attacks on First Children and their slave force
  • Around a century after a second Harvest attempt, The First Children found then captured the Portal and placed it in the Whistling Door, allowing them complete control and two-way access to Earth.
  • Greater control of magic allowed First Children to create and control Homonculi, used for labor and art. They expanded across Kaimere with the aim of exploration.
  • The Golden Age ended with the sudden disappearance of the First Children, with the Homoculi, ruins, the Celestial Wall, and the Whistling Door being the last remaining relics.

Age of Demons

Age of Witches

Mercantile Age

  • 3000 years ago, Free State Merchants use the Portal to trade with humans from the America's and the Mediterranean. A trade network across the Known World was established.
  • 1194-1289 BCE: The Barren Plague spread across the Known World, ending the Mercantile Age. Humans from Earth were blamed for the plague.

Modern Age

  • 1500s: Munarak Bhatugal's campaign to unify the Qajar peninsula as per his late father's wish. With an army of volunteer Mammoths, Drenduga, Arvelith Highlanders, and Hill Ogres, along with the investments of sea mercenaries, he launched an invasion on the hilly shore. After 6 bloody years, Munarak consolidated the defeated or willing lords into the Republic of Qajar.
