They Wasted A Perfectly Good Plot / Dragon Ball Multiverse

Go To

With 20 different universes and a huge cast, many promising plotlines in Dragon Ball Multiverse haven't gotten the exposure they might've.

  • Some longtime Dragon Ball fans think the entire webcomic became wasted the longer it went on. Instead of writing more Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny What If? fights like Cell vs. Dabura and Nail vs. Recoome, it shifted to using more and more Original Characters in the plot and tournament.
  • Fans love the concept of multiverse with various universes, different from the main DB universe, but some feel its being wasted for a tournament. Many fans feel the specials as a whole are wasted because most of them retell how canonical events went except with the villains winning instead of exploring the repercussions of the villains' victories. The U6 and U17 specials both got complaints for solely featuring the titular villains (Bojack and Cell) killing their universe's Z-Fighters without exploring any of the repercussions of doing so or how the villains dealt with other threats.
  • The Future Majin Attack special. The special was better received than most of the others, but there was still outcry from fans on how forced the plot was to make Future Gohan win against Babidi and Dabura. Fans felt the special could've been centered around Future/U12 Trunks and 16, and how they dealt with Babidi and Dabura coming to Earth to revive Majin Buu, which is exactly what Dragon Ball Super did, minus Android 16.
  • A minicomic revealed that U8 Paragas and Broly are still around, but chose to live in peace instead of attacking Freeza and his PTO, who are still dominant in the universe. What would have been an awesome special in itself, it has been decided it is not worth exploring, let alone other universes where multiple evil factions would still be around.
  • Some fans saw the fight between U16 Bra and U8 King Cold as a chance for the former to learn to be less arrogant by losing to the latter after agreeing to fight without Super Saiyan and King Cold having two new transformations. She seems to be losing at first, but after some senzu beans and some out-of-nowhere new techniques, she defeats King Cold easily and not only does she fail to learn anything, she becomes even more smug over her capabilities. Some felt this was corrected with Ginyu stealing Bra's body, leaving her crippled and bleeding on the arena floor in King Cold's body until a few pages later when Vegito's group instantly find out Ginyu body-jacked Bra rather than everyone being in the dark about it, followed by Vegito immediately ejecting Ginyu from Bra's body. They also decided to have Bra complain that Vegito took too long.
  • After years of build-up, Ginyu is revealed! And fans love him. Aaaaaand he's promptly defeated in the most obvious way possible in 15 pages, resulting in him back in his old body, U16 Bra back in hers, and no one having learned any lessons or Character Development. What could have been an excellent ongoing arc basically had as much importance as that episode of DBZ where Goku gets a driver's license.
  • Gast vs Raichi was a highly anticipated matchup, due to a combination of conflicting ideologies despite their similar origins, and the potential of a fight between a warrior who has been hyped up to be on par with Vegito and Zen Buu fighting a Badass Army of Super Saiyans, Frost Demons, Space Pirates, and a Kaiju. In reality, Gast and Raichi barely talk to each other and the only two ghosts that Raichi uses are U13 Vegeta and Broly which also ends up revealing that Gast is only on par with SSJ3s and is only able to beat Raichi with pure luck. Furthermore, when Raichi transforms into Hachiyack, the only thing he ends up doing is screaming and firing a ki blast every 15 seconds until Gast kills him.
  • The idea of characters getting new forms, due to being strengthened by Babidi, is very under utilized, with only Kakarot and Frieza getting new forms, and even then, neither of them even live long enough for the extra form to matter.
  • U9's special chapter was considered to be a huge waste after the long wait for it. The special started by briefly exploring what the repercussions of Cooler destroying Goku's pod and killing Frieza would have on the events of Dragon Ball... only for the second half to abruptly skip to the present, not exploring how the Z-Fighters dealt with Cooler/other threats, or why some characters (Yamcha in particular) were different from their main counterparts. Salagir openly admitted beforehand the chapter was going to be a mess thanks to it being drawn and abandoned by multiple artists, but nonetheless many felt it should've been redone.
  • Vegito's attempt to kill Bra in Chapter 79 was a good opportunity for a Grey-and-Gray Morality situation. On the one hand, Vegito is justifiably angry due to Bra killing Gohan and doesn't necessarily want to do the deed anyway; his decision is based on prior experience with Bra's berserk episodes and the knowledge he's the only one strong enough to keep them from happening, and he's expressly acting to protect his universe despite personal cost. On the other hand, Bra was not herself at the time and clearly very remorseful about the situation. The story could've shown Both Sides Have a Point or have a thoughtful discussion about whether U16 Bra can be trusted to not go on a killing spree again, or if it's prudent to even let her have that chance. Instead, multiple characters say Vegito is clearly in the wrong, that there's no excuse for his behavior, and that everything which happened is actually his fault, not U16 Bra's. (Anyone who may have taken his side, like Vegeta or U1 South Kai, is either silent or not present at all.) His final question of "What happens when U16 Bra reaches level 3" is dismissed offhand with a "You'll have to wait and see."
  • The Majin Rebellion ends with everyone resurrected and the arena restored. Any potential drama or intrigue that could've come from the tournament being disrupted and all the gods/overseers murdered is left unseen.
  • Zen Buu vs XXI was a much anticipated battle between two magical beings with powers that bordered on omnipotent. This could have been an opportunity to show off their capabilities, allowing Buu to go all out on an opponent who could finally match him and set up XXI as an incredibly dangerous villain that the heroes will have to somehow overcome... but instead, the fight only lasts six pages, with Buu almost instantly losing due to XXI knowing the incantation to seal him up which Buu can easily break out of, but luckily enough for XXI, not within 30 seconds.
