They Wasted A Perfectly Good Character / The Fairly OddParents!

Go To

  • Remy Buxaplenty is an example of a character saved from the waste heap. Remy (and his Fairy Godparent Juandissimo) made such an impression on the fans in one appearance that they clamored for more, and they eventually got three more appearances for him in close succession. However, Remy then stopped appearing while his Godparent still got to make more appearances without him. He only made one more appearance late in Season 9...as a completely new character.
  • Ms. Sunshine, AKA Ms. Doombringer. A much more competent fairy hunter, cool design and voice, not too serious and could've been expanded on afterward, maybe even causing Crocker to actually start upping his game to keep his turf. But sadly, the writers who wrote the episode just up and forgot her and she was never seen again. Ironic, since the end of her only appearance has her vowing to someday return. Crocker's line after she says this sums it up:
    Crocker: But not someday soon.
  • Missy; she became Timmy's friend at the end of "Finding Emo", and never appeared again. Some fans think the writers should have used her as the co-star of season 10 instead of Chloe, since they already had some established chemistry.
  • Francis is the only main antagonist who never got an episode revolving around him to explain his bullying, and the fact that he appeared less in the later seasons definitely doesn't help this case.
  • Some see Gary, Timmy's Imaginary Friend, as utterly wasted potential for a villain. This is a guy who came from Timmy's psyche and likewise knew how he would think which could've provided some challenge for him. Heck, "Escape From Unwish Island" was a good example of this, but said episode gave him an uninteresting send-off where he pretty much gets what he wants.
  • The two other godkids with whom Timmy went to reform school, Molly and Dwight, have interesting personalities that bounce off each other and off Timmy pretty well. With them potentially becoming a Power Trio, they could learn from each other to become more and more independent. The fact that their fairies are also shown to have dynamics unique from Timmy's dynamic with Cosmo & Wanda could also be used as material for new episodes. Instead, they disappear from the show, never to be heard from again.
  • Wanda's relatives, including her sister Blonda and their father Big Daddy, only appeared in the show's fifth season and haven't made any more appearances when the show was Un-Cancelled, meaning their relationship with Cosmo and Wanda's son Poof goes completely unexplored.
  • Trixie Tang is often cited as being wasted, due to the events of "The Boy Who Would Be Queen", which reveals her as having a secret tomboy side, on top of being a Closet Geek of comic books. Many fans love this side of Trixie's from the episode and wished it was explored more deeply. Unfortunately, this was the only episode to showcase this side of her, with later episodes not touching on the subject again, with the show effectively retconning it in favor of exaggerating her Alpha Bitch traits.
  • Likewise, Trixie's friend Veronica is also cited as a wasted character, due to the events of "Information Stupor Highway", which revealed that she had a secret crush on Timmy Turner. Unfortunately, this was only brought up once more in "Mind Over Magic" before being dropped completely.
  • Many characters who were prominent in the first five or six seasons serve as examples of this, with several of these characters (Chester, A.J., Tootie, Trixie, Veronica, Francis, the Cool Kids, Dr. Bender, etc.) being phased out and making no major appearances for several seasons afterwards. To make things more puzzling, Butch Hartman indicated in videos produced after the series ended that the writers hadn't forgotten about any of them, just no longer found them as entertaining as Mr. Crocker or Mr. Turner.
  • While she certainly has many detractors, others argue that Chloe could’ve worked as a character, seeing as her and Timmy have contrasting personalities that could work well off each other, along with the fact it meant we get to see another kid in the series with fairies and how they use their wishes. This especially applies to in terms of her deserving fairy godparents, with some suggesting her parents could have been portrayed as strict and overbearing, which is why she has to come off as perfect all the time, but instead her parents are pretty nice and Chloe's weak excuse for needing godparents, during a fairy shortage too mind you, is because when she tries to help people she ends up making a bigger mess.
