The Ending Changes Everything / Saw

Go To

Every Saw movie ends on a twist that's at least somewhat like The Ending Changes Everything.

  • Saw: The man lying "dead" in the middle of the Bathroom was alive the whole time, and is the Jigsaw killer who had orchestrated the traps, with his identity being that of John Kramer, Gordon's cancer patient who was previously seen in his narration about the Jigsaw killings.
  • Saw II: The "live" feed of the traps that the police are watching was actually pre-recorded, and Daniel, Eric's son, was in a safe in that room the whole time. Also, Amanda was working for John, acting as his disciple to continue the Jigsaw legacy after he dies, with the events of the film having been a trap she designed for Eric that he failed.
  • Saw III: Lynn's test was a Secret Test of Character that John had designed for Amanda, feeling that she had lost sight of his ideals and was just murdering people out of hatred by creating inescapable traps. Also, Jeff and Lynn were married, and the child John referred to as having been taken from Jeff is their kidnapped daughter rather than their dead son.
  • Saw IV: Hoffman is another of John's apprentices, and continues his legacy after his and Amanda's deaths.
  • Saw V: Hoffman attempts to frame Strahm for the Jigsaw murders he committed before killing him, getting away with it scot-free (at least until the next one).
  • Saw VI: In his will, John gave his ex-wife Jill five envelopes containing pictures of five people to be "tested", which she gives to Hoffman. The ending reveals that Jill held onto a sixth envelope that contained a picture of Hoffman himself. Jill locks Hoffman into a (manipulated) new version of the Reverse Bear Trap and leaves him to die; he survives, but gets his right cheek shred in the process.
  • Saw 3D: Gordon has become yet another of John's accomplices since the first film. He finishes what Jill started by kidnapping Hoffman and leaving him to die in the same bathroom Gordon was locked up in in the first film.
  • Jigsaw: The main game is actually a flashback to events ten years prior, and all of the people in it died... save for one. That survivor was Logan, the ostensible protagonist for most of the film, who's revealed to have become an apprentice of Jigsaw's (and now the man carrying on his legacy) after he spared him from the game.
  • Spiral: Not only does Schenk turn out to be the Spiral Killer, but he was also the son of the witness whom Zeke turned Pete in for killing, this being his motivation to kill corrupt cops. The reason why he infiltrated the department was because he wanted to get to Zeke (whom he thought was the only good cop in the department) and try to convince him to help him (which ends up failing for him).
  • Saw X: The supposed fellow rube character Parker is revealed to be the conwoman Cecilia's lover and was her insurance policy all along. It turns out that Cecilia was aware John Kramer was Jigsaw when she scammed him and had actually targeted him specifically so he would kill her unneeded accomplices and therefore she wouldn't need to split the money from her scam. Of course, Jigsaw had already discovered their relationship earlier and was in fact using her plot to lure Parker out of hiding. Naturally, things go south for both of them when they go to pick up the money.
