  • Rokuro is the lone survivor of a tragedy that killed all his friends, later revealed to be far worse as he had to kill them himself after they had been changed into impurities. And to make matters even worse, he didn't even know until years later that there was a way to save them.
  • Benio's parents were killed right in front of her, and her twin brother was living in the Hiinatsuki dorms on the night of the tragedy.
  • Ryougo's entire family was killed by Impurities when he was still a child. It is likely that the same thing happened to all of the Hiinatsuki children.
  • Sayo was born with a power too powerful to bear, and raised knowing she wouldn't see her twenties while her body condition seems to slowly degrade. The worst part? She has been locked up in the Ikagura estate her whole life until Rokuro and Benio had to be tested. Her. Whole. Life.
• Benio's reaction to learning the truth about Yuuto. She was literally on her knees, begging Rokuro for forgiveness after misjudging him as well as for her brother's actions.
• Higano and Hijirimaru's deaths. Higano's farewell to his friend in particular is quite heartbreaking. Even the heroes feel uneasy afterwards.
• Arimori Tsuchimikado, Arima Tsuchimikado's only son, desperately wants his father's approval—but after the death of his mother Mana, he falls into a deep depression and has little interest in exerting himself an an exorcist. Arima, Manipulative Bastard that he is, comes across as being a cold and uncaring parent, belittling and criticizing Arimori harshly. However, after Arimori joins Rokuro's house, Arima is shown with an uncharacteristically sorrowful look on his face, thinking that without his wife around, things don't work out well between him and his son. Any parent who's felt a rift grow between them and their child can sympathize.
  • Kinako then asks Arimori if he'd joined the Enmadou house because he knows that Arima takes an interest in Rokuro, and hopes that some of that attention will fall on him as well. Arimori doesn't answer out loud, but his expression says it all...
