  • When the player must sacrifice the frog to the giant snake to progress.
    • It helps that the frog is outright reluctant to go into the room, so it probably knew going in there meant certain death.
    • Made even worse in the MV remake; Upon initially trying to force the frog through the hole, it will hop away from you and hide in a crack in the wall, requiring you to do a few extra steps in order to retrieve it. After this, the frog's description reads "It won't look you in the eye anymore." You've broken its trust. And you still have no choice but to feed it to the snake.
    • Later on, you meet his three tadpole children, and are forced to kill them by contaminating their pond with blood after needing to wash the red shoes. At least they survive in the Extra Mode of the MV remake.
  • The letter you find upon escaping from the house. It's the first half of the letter from Viola's father, which the real Viola never got to read.
  • The real Viola's final fate.
    • Viola trying to call out to her father in the real ending. The poor girl couldn't even say basic words like "Daddy" without struggling. And in the remake, she clearly struggles to say "help me."
    • Following that scene, Ellen laughs after the real Viola is killed by her father. The Extra difficulty even gives a bonus line from Ellen to make it even more stings.
"Ahh, I see... Seeing your own father fail to notice you... That's what finally pushed you over the edge of despair, wasn't it, Viola? ...Heehee."
  • In the Diary of Ellen, Ellen gets careless with one man who came in to kill her and lets herself be thrown out the window and to the outside of the house, where she completely loses the magic keeping her healthy and returns to her true, sickly-looking form which has continually progressed to the point it's untreatable anymore. As she looks on how her body truly appears, she starts bawling as she sees how terrible she looks and gets decapitated by the man as she mentally rants how everyone should die for her to make her feel better. We get a visual of this scene in the Diary of Ellen Manga as well. As evil and sociopathic as Ellen truly is, it's hard not to pity her and how she went from a girl abandoned by her parents to a mass murdering witch driven by her desire to be loved.
  • In the Extra Mode of the MV remake, if you head back to the house after escaping, the previous witch appears as an Astral Projection and waves goodbye to Ellen before disappearing. Keeping in mind that she's basically Ellen's foster mother and this is likely the last time they will ever see each other, you almost feel sorry for the two. At least until you remember that they are both sadistic mass murdering psychopaths.
