• The joke from the trailer about Garmadon butt-dialing Lloyd turns out to be a bit darker in the movie. The number comes up on Lloyd's phone as unlisted, so he didn't know who was calling him. Which means that, unlike what is suggested in the trailer, Garmadon made the effort to find Lloyd's number and put it into his own phone, but never bothered to reach out to his son. On top of that, Lloyd tries several attempts to get both acknowledgement and love from Garmadon in said call due to the crappy life that he endures from everybody else in Ninjago City due to who his father is. Lloyd only gets disappointment for his trouble. Do we even need to mention that this was also on Lloyd's birthday?
• Lloyd being despised by everyone who isn't his mom, Master Wu, or his friends, all because he happens to be Garmadon's son. Upon arriving to school, he was greeted by a Death Glare by not only the Bus Driver, but by the entire student body. The cheerleaders even go out of the way of creating a cheer routine, "Boo, Lloyd", that managed to become the number-one hit on the radio. Remember that this all happened on what was Lloyd's birthday. It just shows how much everyone hates him.
• Lloyd having to watch as Meowthra absolutely crushes any and all chances of stopping Garmadon. What makes it worse is he led it there by accident in the first place.
  Lloyd: I wish you were never my father...
• Garmadon revealing the backstory for why he left Lloyd and Koko. He couldn't bring himself to stop being evil, even after Koko took Baby Lloyd away because Garmadon only wanted to conquer Ninjago. Lloyd even realized that he'd never see his dad again, and was on the verge of tears upon the realization. Even Garmadon himself, as shown in the page image, was shedding tears of remorse.
  • Remember that one moment in the trailer where Koko reminisces about her love life with Garmadon? Turns out the actual context is much, much sadder. In actuality, Garmadon was having a vision of how he could have given up his evil ways and settled down with Koko, and how it sadly did not happen.
    Garmadon: The life of a conquering warlord, was not the life she wanted for you... I could have changed... but... I didn't..
  • Even after finally bonding with Lloyd, Garmadon still refuses to change and takes the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon for himself.
    Garmadon: I couldn't change then. What makes you think I can change now?
• Lloyd tearfully apologizing for saying he wished Garmadon wasn't his father, moving Garmadon to tears.
  Lloyd: When, uh... When people look at you, they see a monster. But I know that you just feel scared and alone. I know how that feels—to be judged unfairly. So, um... I just wanna say that I forgive you. And... I'm sorry. (sighs) When I said, "I wish you weren't my father," I didn't really mean it. What I... What I should've said is, "I wish we didn't fight all of the time." I wish I could've spent more time with you, and that you could've seen, like, everything I've been through, but you weren't there. I wish we could get that time back, and... I need my dad. I just... I need my dad.
  • Said speech Lloyd gives is so heart-wrenching, Dave Franco started crying while recording the lines.
