Tear Jerker / Star Trek: Insurrection

• Geordi LaForge discovers that the planet's radiation has regenerated his optic nerves, so he has his eye implants removed. He decides to watch a sunrise naturally for the first time in his life, getting express permission from Picard to do so. There's a lengthy shot of both the sunrise itself and of the tears welling in his eyes from being able to see it.
  • When the crew is planning their mission to save the Ba'ku, he remarks that he couldn't stand having his natural eyesight back knowing what it cost them.
• Admiral Dougherty, after discovering what the Son’a intend to do to the Ba’ku, tries to do the right thing and call off the plan, but gets killed for it.
  • According to the novelization, part of his motivation stems from his wife's recent death, and in his final moments, he thinks of her.
• The brief bit with Worf oversleeping seems like a Big-Lipped Alligator Moment as is (it's unlikely to be the effects of the Ba'ku world, given that the Enterprise had only just entered the Briar Patch), but it's more likely to be an Orphaned Reference to the removal of references to Jadzia's death on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and in earlier drafts, Worf's presence on the Enterprise was explained as him being there as him having taken a leave of absence from the station after her death. Meaning that it potentially was originally meant as a sign of him still struggling with accepting her death and either oversleeping or failing to set an alarm because of his grief.
  • A simpler explanation is that the space station uses the 26-hour Bajoran day for its clock, as opposed to the 24-hour Earth day that is common aboard Starfleet vessels. There's also no mention of how far "out of phase" DS9's chronometers are with those of the Enterprise, or those of the colony nearby that Worf was said to be assisting with their defensive systems when he showed up. It's entirely possible that Worf's circadian rhythm is messed up by being aboard a starship again, and he's simply jet-lagged as a result.
