Tear Jerker / Rizelmine

Go To

For a lighthearted, wacky romcom, Rizelmine manages to have some quite sad, emotionally heavy and tearjerking episodes.

  • Episode 14: Rizel manages to get the chance to go on a date with Tomonori who think her Sexier Alter Ego is his ideal older woman. Unfortunately, he learns it was her using age up science magic to trick him unbeknownst to her. Having learnt the truth he refused to go. We Rizel spends the entire date by herself going to the zoo, seeing a movie, having dinner, spending time at the park, wondering why he stood her up and being upset that not only did she not get the date she wanted, but that the Sexier Alter Ego she obtained by having taken a risky experimental drug that would age her up a full 24 hours is about to wear off and she won't get a chance to please him with it. When Tomonori finally goes to search for her in the rain, she sees him, runs to him in joy, only to trip and fall, with Tomonori trying to catch her, only for a truck to suddenly appear in front of em. The last thing seen is the present that is a custom made version of his signature stripped shirt with her face on it flying off into the air
  • Episode 15: If ep 14 didn't feel any more sad, this episode will. the episode open with Rizel waking up in a hospital bed, with her Papa's by her bedside, having learned she was out for a while due to being hit by the truck in EP 14. She then asks what happened to Tomonori. Cue her rushing off to find him. She then finds Tomonori in a coma having sustained a serious blow to the head, one of which is is severe enough, that if he doesn't wake by the end of the night, he will be declared brain dead. The whole ordeal has everyone gradually breaking down in tears, Rizel's Papa's and Mama's, Tomonori's parents, and of course Rizel herself who is heartbroken over seeing him in a state and coming to terms with the worst outcome. What makes it sadder is Tomonori's mother at first assuring Rizel that Tomonori isn't one to give up so easily, but it's clear even she's fearing for the worst. Rizel herself is so desperate to see him alive and well, she's willing to take any cold treatment he gives her if it means he wakes up. On Tomonori's end, in his lucid dream state, despite his apparent cold treatment to Rizel, he is shown missing her presence when she's not present in the dream, even while he can't remember her name. The dream haunts him with his life flashing before his eyes, wondering why he likes older women, until it cuts to a memory of him at 5. He sees a then naturally 12, emotionless Rizel crossing a street during a red light with a truck coming. He leaps to save her, sustaining injuries in the process. it revealed Rizel is the older woman he was searching for. For Rizel, it was the most important day of her life, as it gave her someone to truly love and made her become more human.
  • Episode 22: After the events of EP 21 where he is traumatized/conflict at almost having bedded Rizel. Due to ribbing from his peers, Aoi's own interference over thinking he did it because Rizel/Tomonori not understanding what "Adult C" means as a result of miscommunication on the Mama's part , and Rizel ends up having everyone think they did it together not realizing they are thinking something else. And lastly Rizel finally confronting him over his coldness and treatment to her, she gives him an ultimatum on signing divorce papers if he really doesn't want her around him anymore. Annoyed after all the ribbing, misunderstandings and now Rizel just making it worse chastising, him he signs in a fit of anger, leaving the episode on a sour note and Rizel confused and distraught.
  • Episode 23: Tomonori begins missing Rizel, especially when he learns it was all Aoi fault with giving her the idea of divorce papers. After dealing with a bunch of crazy foreign Rizel clones, he's saved by Rizel. At first, the scene looks like a chance to make up with Rizel tearing up the divorce papers, but then she tears up the marriage papers as they fly away in the wind. There's no music, it's just them om top of plateau in dead silence under the Sunset. The worst part, she calls him by his name rather than her usual Danna-Sama (Husband) for the first time in the series, saying it with goodbye, cementing that she and Tomonori are now just strangers.
  • Episode 24: Following Episode 23, it begins on a somber note. Tomonori is shown hanging around town at the local pick up areas, giving the impression that he's already moved on from Rizel and is looking for a date. Even the Papa's, having hoped maybe he might look for her or try win her back, ultimately give up on him, feeling he's a lost cause. Rizel having come to terms with the true state of her relationship with Tomonori, in intense grief following the separation is getting ready to have her memories wiped so she can start again and find someone new. The memories she has of him are too intense to just live with. It's only till she recognizes that the places he's been visiting are all the places she intended to go with him to on her date that she makes one last confirmation before she decides it's truly over. For Tomonori, he's at his lowest point, grief stricken, lonely and regretful at how he drove away the one girl that loved him unconditionally, regardless of his treatment of her. When he finally sees her again, he rushes over to, hugging her while shouting her name. The scene ends with them making up and Rizel crying for the first time without her tears exploding.
