Tear Jerker / Red Velvet

• On their first ever guesting at a radio show they had to give a message to their parents, whom they haven't seen in quite a while. Guess how well that went.
• At the beginning of promotions for "Dumb Dumb," they did a live broadcast on V App. During these streams, viewers can make comments which the artists can read and react to. One particular commenter made some very malicious remarks^note Link contains actual quote, with some NSFW language directed straight at Yeri, and she and Wendy both read them. One can see the normally bubbly and joyful Yeri and Wendy both deflate the moment it happens, and it put Yeri in a bad mood for the rest of the broadcast.
  • Not long after, they got their first win for "Dumb Dumb." Yeri was still not her normal self, and during the encore she started crying, and they were clearly not happy tears.
• During an appearance on the show Knowing Brothers the members (all except Irene, absent for the episode) revealed their biggest fears and worries. In her private interview Yeri, in part because of the events reported above, confessed to be scared of cameras and people. Yeah, a 17 year old girl said she's afraid of people. Wonderful, isn't it?
• Wendy saying that she insists on spending Chuseok ^note  a Korean national holiday either alone or hanging out with her manager, since her whole family is in Canada, because she doesn't want to impose by going to any of her members' homes. Everytime she talks about it, she visibly deflates and the other girls all look so sorry for her.
• Anytime Seulgi talks about her slump during her trainee days. On her recent appearance on "King of Masked Singer", for example, she delivered an outstanding performance and, while eliminated on the first round, gained the praise and admiration of all the judges for her emotional, rich vocals. Backstage, during the mandatory interview, talking about her years as a trainee, she suddenly erupted into tears, talking for the first time about her throat injury and how hard it's been for her during those 7 years of waiting, when all she wanted was to be recognised as a good singer.
  • On the same topic, Irene revealing that Seulgi's throat was in such bad conditions that she couldn't even speak.
  • "King Of Masked Singer" seems to have set a trend. Joy, despite having reached the second round in the competition, cried after hearing the panel members' compliments and revealed that she became so insecure of her abilities in her trainee days that she used to go hide in the bathroom to sing.
• As a trainee, Wendy developed nodules on her vocal chords and had to get injections to keep practicing. She ended up debuting without healing completely.
• The stories about the days they were hurt and/or embarrassed the most. Even if the mood is lifted by Irene's Banana Peel story and Yeri recalling what she gifted her little sister for her birthday.
• On this show^note at about 13 minutes in Joy mentions how the members can always talk about their worries to Irene, while she never tells them what's on her mind. When the host talks about how a leader's job is to be strong, otherwise the group would fall apart, Irene is clearly struggling to hold back her tears.
• A fan's theory that the video for "One of These Nights" is an allusion to the sinking of the MV Sewol ferry ^note a disaster in 2014 that took the lives of over 300 people, the vast majority high school students. Regardless of whether it was intentional or a mere coincidence, viewing the video in that context makes the video incredibly heartbreaking. The fact that the melody and lyrics ^note based on Chilseok, a story of star-crossed lovers with a holiday relating to it falling on the 7th day of the 7th month are already sad makes it even more of a tearjerker.
• The complete mess that was SBS Gayo 2019. Due to staff negligence, Wendy fell several feet to the ground, got knocked out cold, and ended up severely injured. The girls were informed straight away, and immediately left for the hospital. They were supposed to start promoting "The Reve Festival: Finale" that night, right on Christmas Day, and everything got ruined... in the blink of an eye.
  • At the fansign, first and last of the era, the girls all started sharing anecdotes about Wendy and how she was doing, with Joy, through tears, mentioning how Wendy is so in love with music that, even while unconscious, she just wouldn't let go of her microphone.
