Heartwarming / Red Velvet

Go To

  • Wendy generally being a Crowning PERSON Of Heartwarming. It's clear how dear she holds all her members and has said multiple times that they're family to her. To celebrate some of her sunbaes' comebacks, she spent nights baking them treats. She's always bright, cheerful, humble to a fault and puts her all in what she does. She moved away from Canada all alone just to pursue her dreams and it's endearing to see how much passion she has for music and performing.
    • She's always been so nice that, when she first arrived to the company, seeing how competitive the other trainees were scared her. Yeri remembers her as impossibly kind girl and said that it was nice to have someone like that around, since most trainees left after a while and the only ones that stayed were Irene and Seulgi.
  • Yeri's story of how Irene and Seulgi, along with EXO's members, threw a surprise party for her during their trainee days. Yeri, about twelve years old at the time, was tricked into thinking she had behaved badly, and when they came out with a cake she ended up crying in relief.
    • Irene and Seulgi have been taking care of Yeri since she was a child. Irene even says she practically raised her.
  • Their first ever win.
  • The group held a fansign in Daegu, Irene's hometown, where the fans all sang "happy birthday" to her. Cue tears from an overwhelmed Irene, who hardly ever cries on camera. Just look at how she lets Yeri cradle her.
  • During "Ice Cream Cake" era, Seulgi took part on a program that sent her back to school for a few days. She quickly got attached to all her classmates and made friends with everybody. On her last day, Seulgi couldn't even get through the first part of her farewell speech without tearing up, and you can see her trying to be cheerful, only to burst into tears, while saying her goodbyes to everyone. Not only that, but she still wasn't done crying 30 minutes later, when she went to do a closing interview.
    • Days later, during the program's broadcast, Seulgi watched it and couldn't help but cry again. Look at how adorable she is. Doubles as a CMOF thanks to Joy, who posted the video on the group's Instagram.
  • In stark contrast to the incident involving the comments towards Yeri, the group's reaction to the incident by supporting Yeri following it was nice to see.
    • Fans also responded very well to the event, flooding the stream with messages of support, and getting the hashtag #YeriSupportSquad trending on Twitter.
    • During the encore for their first win with "Dumb Dumb" it was incredibly sweet to see Yeri being coddled by all her members. note
  • These threads about Yeri and Irene.
  • Wendy and Seulgi's friendship in general. They clicked as soon as they met and Seulgi happily helped Wendy catch up with training. They've been inseparable ever since.
Seulgi: We're friends right. From the first time Wendy came until now, Wendy has always been a friend who always thinks of the members. (Wendy was flustered, didn't know where to look and started tapping her chair) From the start till now, you've always loved the members and taken care of us like a mother. Thank you for being born...um though there's still some time left till your birthday, congratulations and I'll tell you again during then. I'll tell you about my love for you. Why!? Don't be shy. Thank you so much. Thank you so so so much.
Wendy: My forever friend.[...] She's also my roommate, I tell her everything and pour my concerns too. I always say that she's my pillar. We're forever friends~ I don't have many friends..and she's one of them. Happy birthday...thank you for being born.
    • The two of them basically singing about their bond in this performance. Though the editors may or may not ship them with the way the put the video together...
    • The whole reason why Wendy feels guilty during this program counts as well. To clarify, she and Seulgi were supposed to sing a song putting back in order various pieces of lyrics displayed on a screen, but Wendy let her nerves get to her and failed before Seulgi could even sing a line. She later manages to sing because Seulgi doesn't let go of her hand.
  • Their first win for "One Of These Nights". They had worried a lot about the artistic shift of the album and decided to not worry about their position on music charts, genuinely not expecting to win, so the looks of surprise on their faces made everything even more heartwarming. All of them were clearly overwhelmed, Seulgi, Joy and Yeri couldn't hold back their tears, while Irene and Wendy looked close to breaking down themselves. Doubles as a Crowning Moment Of Awesome since it's not common to see an idol group winning with a ballad on music shows.
  • Seulgi mentioning Yeri, injured at the time, when the group won an award at the Melon Music Awards, calling her "The prettiest in the world, our youngest member."
  • Irene, Seulgi and Wendy reading their handwritten Christmas wishes to the fans while Yeri dedicated hers to the membersnote .
  • The fact that Yeri has not one, but two leitmotifs, both created by the members to cheer her up when she's tired: "Our Yerimie"note  and "Petite Yeri". Yeah, they're that whipped for their maknae.
  • On this V Live, at about 53 minutes in, the girls start talking about how they love to watch movies in their living room all together; they don't even need to be doing anything in particular to have a good time, being with one another is enough. Then Joy brings up how one day, when they were all gathered around with blankets and food, Wendy unexpectedly said "Oh, we're really like a family" completely out of the blue. Yes, they all cringe at the memory, and yes, the members restlessly tease Wendy about it, but its still pretty clear just how close these girls have become.
  • Irene and Seulgi's LieV, where they recall stories from their trainee days, like Irene hiding in Seulgi's bed due to her Fear of Thunder and them discussing the meaning of the word "friends".
Seulgi: A true friend is someone who makes you smile just by being there and someone who you can open yourself up to completely. Wendy, are you watching?
    • She was.
    • The second LieV, while much rowdier, consists in Red Velvet being soft and cuddly with each other for an hour and twenty minutes straight. Wendy recommends a song that helped her during stressful times, as she wants the members to find solace in it as well, and Yeri is adorably pleased to announce that her self-composed song will be out before the end of 2017. The members as well, based on how proud they look and Wendy praising Yeri's songwriting skills, must be onto something.
      • Joy being the Cuddle Bug she is for the entire time towards both Irene and Yeri. She basically glomps the younger girl to sleep at the end.
      • The final messages, all of them. Especially Yeri saying how it's more important to them that people will appreciate the craft and hard work put into the album rather than placing well on music charts.
  • Wendy talking about Yeri's vocal improvementnote . It wouldn't be a stretch to say that she sounds like a mom, and Yeri being shy is a sight to see.
  • Day 1 of their first concert, with the fans holding up the slogan "Hi, our pride" for the fan event and Yeri telling it right back to everyone.
    • The concept of the concert itself is one: the first VCR depicts Irene, Seulgi, Wendy and Joy sneaking into Yeri's room (the titular "Red Room") to play. It's not Yeri coming to Red Velvet, it's Red Velvet finding Yeri.
    • Joy getting very emotional and talking about how she was afraid she had lost the passion she had during her trainee days, but preparing for the concert with the members made her happy. She tried to hold her tears, but when a fan shouted "I love you!" she broke down.
    • Just the fact that these girls have been through a lot and they're finally seeing their life-long dreams coming true is sweet in its own right.
    • Day 2, Wendy crying at the end of her solo stage. She's such a great performer it's only at these times one remembers she has extreme stage fright.
      • The fans chanting each of the girls' names during their solo stages. Also, Seulgi's dad shouting "Princess you did well!" while Seulgi and Joy were thanking their families for coming.
    • Day 3, the Reveluvs fan event: singing "My Dear" before the girls come out for the encore.
      • Wendy saying she thinks of the other members to calm herself down before her solo stage.
      • Wendy's parents coming over all the way from Canada. It's the first time they see her perform and Wendy is clearly overwhelmed as she thanks them for everything they've done for her.
"Thank you for giving birth to me"
      • The last ment in general: Wendy turns around to shed a few tears, Irene chokes up a few times while she talks, Seulgi almost cries and Yeri breaks down so much all the fans chant her name to cheer her up. Joy feels like crying, too, but tells herself to stop while cutely stomping her feet.
  • "The Red Summer Vacation" and "The Red Summer Memories" music videos.
  • The "Thanks to." sections from both The Red and Perfect Velvet.
  • The reason why "Perfect Velvet" is a special album for the girls: they contributed directly with the A&R team for the first time in their career, personally picking out each song so that they could give strenght to their listeners and share their favourite music styles. You can just hear the passion and hard work put into the album, and the members've said that this time around they don't care about what place they'll get on music charts. They just want people to appreciate their craft.
    • The members wore rainbow outfits in the "Peek-A-Boo" music video, all fully conscious of their meaning, as a way to silently express their support towards LGBT+ rights in an industry where the topic is still a huge taboo.
  • Joy complimenting Wendy's singing. Wendy's embarrassed laugh could make the list alone.
  • Irene and Joy's episode of "Let's eat dinner together". Just the sheer happiness you can see on their faces when they finally manage to have dinner with two of the local families after spending two hours roaming in the cold. They repay the hospitality by helping around in the kitchen and making friends with the owners.
    • The elderly couple that hosts Joy and Kang Hodong (one of the Mcs) is adorable. Same goes for the girl hosting Irene, especially the way she talks about her boyfriend.
    • Irene talking about her mom after she eats a homemade meal for the first time in a while. Doubles as a Tearjerker, because she feels sorry that she always sounds curt when they speak on the phone.
  • The girls taking care of each other in the last few weeks of 2017 at the various award shows they attended. From forming a protective wall in front of Yeri, to holding each other tightly on the first seconds of the new yearnote , to simply keeping up a brave front and supporting one another in silence. These five are a family.
  • Almost anything they did at ISAC 2018 is either this or a Funny Moment. Here's just one video: the cuddle pile and Irene going full "mom mode" and taking countless pictures of the members are some of the softest moments they've ever delivered.
  • Red Velvet's relationship with Luvies is one of mutual adoration.
  • The day before their "Bad Boy" comeback stage, Wendy had a cake made to celebrate and give strenght to the members.
  • On Yeri's 19th birthday, she posted on Instagram her self-composed and self-written song, "1000", written for the anniversary of her 1000th day after debuting. The lyrics basically explain her relationship with Luvies from her point of view.
  • The "Olaf" nickname suits Wendy the best when she's out there giving warm hugs. Irene certainly looks snug there.
  • Irene being the best mom.
    • Yerim being... well, Yerim, but her love for her Juhyun unnie is the real deal.
    • On that note, this thread about how their relationship developed over the years. Prepare for an onslaught of feels.
  • Seulgi picking flowers to represent the members.
  • Each of the closing speeches they did at the end of "Redmare", their second concert. In order: Seulgi, Joy, Irene, Wendy and Yeri.
  • Wendy and Seulgi's Battle Trip episodes, which fans compared to a honeymoon for good reasons.
    • Seulgi insisted on travelling to Vienna because her favourite movie, Before Sunrise, was filmed there. She wants to relieve the emotions the film made her feel, and she wants to experience that with her best friend.
      • Wendy, on the other hand, does find re-enacting the scenes of the movie a bit corny, but she does it anyway because it makes Seulgi happy.
    • "When you look at the world with beauty in your heart, from wherever your eyes lie, you'll find beauty."
    • Their child-like amazement when they see Gustav Klimt's artworks. Seulgi, especially, has in-depth knowledge of their history, and Wendy can finally relate to her excitement thanks to her simple but detailed explanations.
    • In Salzburg, Wendy covering Seulgi's eyes to surprise her with the night view of the city.
      • Wendy's genuine amazement and awe at the view of the Alps as she paraglides.
  • Luvies flooding the comment section of Yeri's Instagram posts with positive and supportive comments whenever people start leaving baseless, offensive remarks.
  • "I'm really happy that I'm in Red Velvet."
  • Yeri taking some time late at night for a Q&A session with Luvies. As she puts it "we are such good friends to each other".
    • "The Avengers protect the Earth and Luvies protect Yerimmie".
  • Dallas Luvies making Seulgi's birthday a special one.
  • Luvies all around the world being absolutely over the moon about Wendy finally going back to Toronto for the first time in 7 years.
    • And not just Luvies. The members spent the entire concert hyping Wendy up, and almost all of them dedicated their final thoughts to her and how happy they were to be in Canada for the first timenote . You might wanna bring tissues.
      • Joy's entire final speech, which doubles as one big Tear Jerker, in spades. It's clear she's speaking all of the other members' minds when she says how grateful she is for Wendy's presence in the group and how proud they all are for how far she's come. No wonder they all break down even more, heck, by the end of it even the translator sounds choked up.
  • Yeri's birthday letter, to both Luvies and herself.
  • Red Velvet take a friendship test.
  • The fansign following Wendy's accident at SBS Gayo 2019. Did somebody say True Companions?
    • The girls seem to be spending any free time they have with Wendy in the hospital, along with Wendy's parents. Also Wendy, being Wendy, insisted that the members eat the fruit delivered to her so they wouldn't catch a cold during the wintry months ahead.
    • Joy mentioning how royally pissed all the members were at SBS's half-assed apology, but couldn't find it in herself to voice her thoughts out at first because of her professional mindset making her think that idols have to perform no matter the conditions of the stage. Seeing all the Luvies being outraged by what happened to Wendy gave her the confidence to speak up.
    • The fact that Luvies didn't ask about Wendy at all despite being extremely worried, just so they wouldn't upset the girls. Who, in turn, decided to share updates about Wendy's condition anyway, just to reassure Luvies that she's fine, despite the gravity of her injuries, and focusing completely on recovering.
  • During "La Rouge" in Hiroshima the members still managed to bring Wendy with them. Joy used her microphone, Irene had her nails painted blue, and all of them mentioned her in their speeches, with Seulgi asking Luvies to wait for her and chant "Wendy is awesome!" when she'll come back. Yeri even wore the concert t-shirt backwards just to keep at the front the image with all five of them, and the next day she posted this on her Instagram.
    • Joy posting these on Instagram after the concert.note
  • Wendy posting a bunch of pictures on Instagram for her birthday and writing her message in both English and Korean to reassure Luvies that she's recovering well.

Level Up! Project

  • Since Joy was missing because of her filming schedules, the other members carried around a Joy doll, nicknamed Jorim, all the time, taking care of it as if it were the real thing.
  • The members taking care of the staff as much as they can for the whole trip.
  • The staff telling Irene not to push herself if she doesn't want to do parasailing. She later mentions she managed to do it because the members gave her strenght.
  • Wendy carrying around wet tissues for everyone, even the filming staff, and taking care of the members in general.
  • Yeri's adorable laugh after she feeds crocodiles and her unnies' proud faces.
  • Yeri, despite having jokingly treated Seulgi like a servant ever since they became roommates, jumps at the prospect of buying couple rings for the two of them.
  • Wendy saying that she doesn't go around as much as she did as a trainee because she thinks of what people might think of her and she wants to give a good example.
  • A lot of episode 10. For starters, Yeri playing around by herself on the beach and the members immediately taking out their phones to take a picture of her. Also Wendy snapping various pictures of the Joy doll and sending them to her, saying she's always with them and Irene writing "Red Velvet" in the sand.
    • The girls saying they want to take a vacation all together back to Thailand, just the five of them.
  • Episode 15 gives us Red Velvet relaxing and having some down time at the beach like an actual family.
  • The girls bursting in a bar because they heard one of their songs playing and meeting a big fan of theirs that ends up crying of joy.
  • Episode 17 has several:
    • Irene buying presents for Joy and even Yeri's younger sister.
    • Seulgi winning a chick plushy at the arcade because it reminded her of Joy and buying friendship bracelets for the members.
    • Wendy feeling so bad about having accidentally spilled her drink on Irene's skirt that she travels back and forth the entire shopping mall just to buy her a new one.
      • Episode 18 reveals that Yerim was so adamant on buying presents for all the members that she ended up doing a dance medley to get more money.
  • In episode 19, Wendy finally gets her revenge on Yeri for not picking her as a roommate on their first day in Thailand, but she also immediately melts when Yeri tries to suck up to her to share their individual money. She also worries for Yeri's condition, spent from all the dancing.
  • "You don't really need much to be happy. I think I've forgotten about it for a bit." - Seulgi
  • Episode 23
    • Irene and Seulgi comforting Wendy when she beats herself up for taking a long time when it comes to shopping.
    • Joy's message to the members and Irene worrying about how she must have felt being left alone at the dorm. Luckily, Irene's gaming prowess wins everyone a (possible) second season.
    • The girls have grown so attached to the staff that they want every single one of them to come back if they ever make a season 2. Irene and Wendy even tear up when they think about finishing filming the show.
