Tear Jerker / Ready Jet Go!

Go To

As per Craig Bartlett's cartoons, Ready Jet Go! has been proven to get us teary-eyed from time to time.

As moments pages are made for post-viewing discusssion, beware of unmarked spoilers!

Season 1:

  • The entire episode of "Beep Has the Blues". Full stop. It is one of the more emotional episodes of the series and it focuses on Beep, the rover at the DSA, feeling depressed because her sister on Mars, Boop is sick. It might not seem like much, but it was quite poignant. What makes it even more dramatic is when Jet, Sean, and Sydney go up to Mars to rescue Boop, but almost get caught by the DSA scientists, who are watching them via Boop's eye cameras.
  • The climax of the episode "Jet 2." Jet builds a robot so he can be at two places at once, but experiences jealousy for the first time when Sean and Sydney take said robot to the treehouse instead of staying and playing with Jet. Mindy comes over as Jet is working on his rocket chair and realizes that Jet feels jealous, something he's never felt before. What makes the scene all the more sad is when Mindy starts explaining jealousy to Jet, and somber piano music starts playing in the background, reflecting on Jet's emotions. The saddest part is when Jet finally confesses his jealousy to Sean and Sydney and they apologize and comfort him.
  • The episode "Mission to Mars". To think that Sean had it all figured out about Mars, to think he was going to finally achieve his lifelong dream of being the first human on Mars, and to have it all completely crushed. by the fact that humans have to overcome some challenges to go to Mars, and definitely not right away. There's also the fact that Sean is a human and if he doesn't have the proper training and equipment, he would not survive on Mars. Luckily, Jet, Sydney, and Mindy make him a pretend Mars in the backyard, where they pretend to be Mars explorers, and eases Sean's anxieties and insecurities about going to Mars. This also counts as a Heartwarming Moment.
  • One of the defining tearjerkers in the show is towards the end of "Kid-Kart Derby". Mitchell ends up winning the derby, but nobody in Boxwood Terrace congratulates him. Instead, the entire town cheers for Jet instead, who was parachuting. Even though Mitchell can be a gigantic a-hole as shown in this very episode and "Mindy's Mystery", it's very hard not to feel bad for him in this scene. Wistful music even plays during the scene, that creates a sense of loneliness. This scene implies that Mitchell actually regrets what he did in that episode, and that he may actually be a good person deep down. And even though he has a few fans (as shown when two of the other racers were gushing over him before the race started), he might not have any real friends. That's just.....damn. However, it turns into a Heartwarming Moment when Jet gets the entire town to cheer for Mitchell instead of him.
  • In "Mindy's Meteorite Stand", Mindy believes she has found a real meteorite in Jet's yard, but Dr. Rafferty inspects it, and unfortunately has to bring the bad news:
Dr. Rafferty: Mindy...your rock is an Earth rock. It isn't from outer space and here's why. I see quartz in here. Quartz is a shiny mineral that's only found in Earth rocks.
  • The episode "Sunspot and the Great Red Spot" is this from beginning to end. Sunspot is very excited to go to the Red Spot Club meeting at Jupiter, but the saucer breaks down. Sunspot then goes through a lot of anxiety and trauma because he has never missed a Red Spot Club meeting and does not want to be late. He's so anxious to the point where he can't feed himself and Mindy has to feed him instead. Anyone that has extreme anxiety about being late can relate to this.
  • In "Detective Mindy", Mitchell finds out that the black hole was just an expression that his dad used. Then he start to doubt his detective abilities, which is heart-breaking.
Mitchell: I guess this detective stuff is harder than it seems.
  • The final song from the episode "Tiny Blue Dot" is just so beautiful and touching, it can bring a tear to one's eye. The song is also a powerful message to send to preschoolers because our current generation has to fix the mistakes that our ancestors made in the past in order to save the Earth. Our Earth truly is precious, and the only place we could ever live.
"Tiny blue dot, what a gorgeous little spot...our planet, our spaceship, our home."
  • Though it's a minor moment, in "Satellite Selfie", Mindy gets upset at the fact that Jet's house was not in the picture. For whatever reason, it's just really heart-wrenching to see Mindy, a 4-year-old, get upset.
  • In "My Fair Jet", it is revealed that the DSA Open House has to go well or else the Deep Space Array will no longer be funded. Just the very thought of Dr. Rafferty and Dr. Bergs losing their jobs is heartbreaking.
    • It starts raining, and the weather balloon starts flying off.....with Sean latching on to it, trying to hold on for dear life. From the look on Dr. Rafferty's face, you can just tell that she's traumatized. Also, Sydney very nearly cries while trying to beg Jet to forget his training and use his jet-pack to rescue Sean.
  • In "Lone Star", although Lone Star partially left on his own terms, it's still really upsetting to watch the citizens of Boxwood Territory drive him out of town, all because they didn't like his ideas. Luckily, things get better after that.
  • In the episode "Sean's Neptune Tune", Sean keeps hiding from Jet and Sydney because he is frightened at the very thought of going to Neptune. It is revealed that Sean had borrowed a Commander Cressida comic from Sydney that had pictures of Neptune that scared him. He initially chose not to tell Jet and Sydney about it, because he was embarrassed. It is implied that Sean thought that Sydney and Jet wouldn't want to be his friend anymore. It just makes you want to jump into the TV screen and give Sean a hug. This turns into a Heartwarming Moment when Jet and Sydney comfort him, and reassure them that they're his friends forever, and tell him that he shouldn't be embarrassed to tell them anything.
  • At one point in "Castaway Carrot", Carrot sadly wonders if Jet and Celery will ever come back to rescue him from the moon, complete with the same Sentimental Music Cue that was played during Jet's jealousy realization in "Jet 2".
  • The episode "Jet Can't Sleep" is Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Jet can't get to sleep because there is a storm outside. So, Celery sings him a lullaby. Tissues strongly suggested. It was so sad, that even the composer for the show, Jim Lang, cried during the recording of the song and posted a picture of his used tissue on Instagram.
  • "Holidays in Boxwood Terrace":
    • It is pretty much confirmed that Mitchell isn't really a cold-hearted jerk....he's really a lonely kid who puts up a Jerkass facade, and just wants to have friends. As he's watching Sean rehearse his song, Mitchell even gets tears in his eyes, and laments how he can only imagine how fun it must be to have friends. Poor Mitchell.
      • Mitchell was offered a chance to join the show earlier, but rejected it, saying that he doesn't do "friend". More than anything, Mitchell wants to be loved, but his low self esteem causes him to push others away, even his potential friends. This self-destructive behavior still leaves him lonely and afraid to get close to anyone. Anyone wanna jump into the screen, hug Mitchell and tell him everything is gonna be alright?
    • At the pageant, Sean gets up on stage to perform his highly-anticipated finale song about the Spirit of Christmas. However, he notices how many people are staring at him, and he gets very nervous in front of everyone, he just freezes up and is unable to sing.
    • The entirety of the Spirit of Christmas song is this, and it also counts as heartwarming. After Mitchell was too shy to join the gang, he finally gets to be with them. Mr. Peterson even starts crying uncontrollably during the song!
  • In the beginning of "Mindy in Space", Mindy complains that she is always left behind on trips to outer space. What makes it even worse is when Sunspot proceeds to show a compilation of all times Mindy has said goodbye to the kids when they left for outer space on his tablet.
Mindy: I wish I wasn't always saying goodbye when you zoom off into space! Over and over, almost every day. When can I get my day in space?

Season 2:

  • In "Back to Bortron 7", Eggplant informs Carrot and Celery that after they do their presentation, they will be forced to leave Earth forever. Jet will be forced to leave the best friends he's ever had behind. Luckily, their boss tells them they can stay on Earth for another season.
    • There's also the implication that had the kids not saved the presentation, Sean and Sydney would be stuck on Bortron 7 forever and would never get to see their friends and family ever again.
    • Earlier in the movie, when the mothership goes into interstellar superdrive, Sean is once again apprehensive to go to Bortron 7. He even solemnly says "Good bye, old sun. We'll be back Sunday".
    • The part where the gang is looking a holographic map of the Bortron system, while Sean is left all alone looking at a map of the solar system. He then starts to feel home-sick
    • The reprise of "There's No Planet Like My Planet", is touching, as well.
  • In "Sydney 2", Sydney points out how Jet 2, Jet's robot, often gets taken advantage of on the grounds that "he's a robot who doesn't do that much useful stuff". A lonely spotlight even shines on him, and Sydney feels sorry for him because he has no robot friends, which sets the plot of the episode in motion.
  • In "Mindy and Carrot Bake", Mindy and Carrot accidentally go to space when they were just trying to go to the supermarket. They just sadly sit in the saucer, waiting for someone to come help, but unfortunately, no one can help because Sunspot is too busy with his online classes, Face 9000 is on vacation, and Jet, Sean, Sydney, and Celery went to the science fair. It is implied that Carrot feels bad about accidentally taking Mindy there in the first place.
  • In "Galileo, Galileo!", Sean is excited to do a school report on Galileo Galilei, but Mindy ends up tapping into his prior Performance Anxiety, saying that a million people will be there to see him do his report. Sean imagines the stage from "Holidays in Boxwood Terrace", where he froze up when he was about to sing his finale song, which implies that the incident is a Trauma Button for him.
  • "My Three Suns": Although it is Played for Laughs, Face 9000 taking up comedy seems like an attempt to get the others to pay attention to him for once, given that he fears abandonment. He needs a hug.
  • In "You Can Call Me Albedo", there's Mitchell being worried about Cody going missing, and feeling guilty for making him wear a sweater.
  • In "Sean's Robotic Arm", Sean loses his beloved Neil Armstrong action figure, and he is completely distraught because of it. He laments that he brought it with him to his first roller coaster ride, his first time riding a bike, and his first campout, and he wants to have it with him for every new experience. Poor baby.
  • In "Moon Circus", Carrot strains his back while attempting to do his famous flip, which leaves him depressed. Luckily, the kids cheer him up by taking the party to the moon, where there's less gravity.
  • In "Mars Rock for Mom", Jet 2 is very disappointed that he has to leave Mars and leave Boop behind. Even though he still has a smile on his face, it is still easy to tell that he's sad.
  • "Sean Has A Cold", where Sean has to stay indoors and not fly kites with his friends due to him having a cold.

Ready Jet Go! Space Camp

  • Sunspot's comet dust allergy causes him to shrink, and he can only be cured by a rare Applied Phlebotinum called deshrinkulum. He keeps shrinking and shrinking, almost shrinking away to nothing.
  • The normally optimistic and happy Jet falls into despair over the thought of losing his best friend. Over the course of the movie, he makes bad decisions, such as (initially) not telling Sean, Sydney, and Mindy about his plan, and not asking them for help. Jet feels like he messed everything up, and when, at one point, he thinks that Sunspot is gone for good, he starts crying. Jet "The Pollyanna, Determinator, Cheerful Child" Propulsion, going through a Despair Event Horizon and just breaking. Poor, sweet Jet. Luckily, things get better after that.
  • Jet's song about Sunspot, "Brother From Another Sunspot Mother," is both heartwarming and tearjerking, detailing all of the good memories that the two of them shared and their strong bond.
There's nothing that I wouldn't do for you
And there's nothing that you wouldn't do for me
    We complete each other
    'Cause you're my brother
    From another Sunspot mother
