Tear Jerker / Puss in Boots (2011)

Go To

  • In Puss's flashback, Imelda having to watch as her adopted son (seemingly) relapses into crime again. Her sad, heart-broken expression as he passed her by would haunt him, even after 7 years.
    • The Commandante himself put his wholehearted trust in Puss, and he (seemingly) betrays it. And in one scene, he even spits in his face.
  • Puss in Boots in jail. Even though it's brief, it's still saddening to see Puss lose hope, which is highlighted when he licks himself all over and stays silent for a few seconds. And this all happened because he was once again tricked by Humpty, who tricked him into helping him robbing the bank seven years prior. Before Puss gets arrested, you can feel the hurt and anger in his voice as he yells at him "I TRUSTED you!" and "I should SCRAMBLE you with onions!" with the same hurt and enraged tone and in the exact same way.
  • Kitty's backstory. She was taken in by a loving family, who eventually had her declawed, and even Kitty doesn't know why, although she thinks that it might be because she played too rough with their hamster or ripped off the curtains.
    • Even worse when you learn the full extent of what declawing a cat entails. It literally removes parts of the paws up to the first knuckles, and often leaves the cat with chronic pain and anxiety due to literally having their feet mutilated and chopped apart. And it's even more heartbreaking because Kitty is a sapient, thinking being-so her parents basically mutilated their own child. (No wonder she has trust issues.)
  • "I'm not a person! I'm not a bird! I'm not even a food! I don't know what I am!"
  • Near the end when Puss and Humpty are dangling off a cliff, Humpty lets himself fall so Puss can bring the Mother Goose's chick back to her.
Puss: I won't let you go, Humpty!
Humpty: (sad smile) I know. So I won't make you choose.
  • "I always knew you were good inside."
  • Puss saying goodbye to the three kitties in The Three Diablos. He looks like he's about to cry, his voice trembling, yet he says that it's just allergies.
