This situation is just even worse than a stormy weather...
  • Episode 21 is like a warning saying to the audience that things are getting serious. The episode starts out pretty peacefully, when a straying and wounded wolf makes his appearance. After that the duo learned that he's a traitor who attacked (or maybe even killed) the leader of his pack, May and Gabu helps him to leave the Baku Baku's wolves's territory. The reason of why Jess, the traitor wolf, attacked the chief is because the latter coldly and cowardly killed Jess's best friend who challenged him, hoping to be a better leader for the pack than the actual one. And while Jess tried to save his friend, it was too late.
    • Before departing, Jess asked Gabu and May if they "plan to stay living like this forever". As an answer, they don't know what to say. Just before the episode concludes, a worried May ask Gabu if they will in fact stay friends forever. Even if Gabu tells her that it will stay the case, he doesn't seem so sure about it. It's like a near omen of what will happen later...
  • The whole 24th episode is this, for both Gabu and May. The two friends being forced to spend a lonely night, ostracized by their respective clans. Both of them have nightmare, due to the fear of being tricked by the other since the beginning. The young female goat also dreaming of her deceased mother, seeing the better and worse moments she spent with her. And watching Boro's reaction by learning the one he always saw as a big brother is quite sad, even if we only saw him for some seconds.
    • Giro's story about how he became the leader is quite grim too. While Gabu's father named Garuru was second in-line to be in charge, he entrusted the charge to a younger and doubtful Giro, who proved himself to be very competent at hunting food. The reason for why Garuru did this is that he, and surely other wolves who came with him, died while fighting with a rival pack who came to attack them.
    • The last dream that May did before waking up was about her as much younger, happy to see her mother again. Even the joy to be with her mother again doesn't prevent the young goat to cry while laughing. Then, the dream finish with May's mother telling her kid that she will always be with her.
  • The episode 25, which gives us the picture above. While a lot of scenes are too much focused on the curious animals around who spies the current event, this episode does mark the end of the series with a rather sad mood, even before the last episode.
    • To explain it better, everybody is now aware of the "secret" relationship between May and Gabu, as both of them are being spied by some animals, and their respective clans. They have also the duty to betray each other by extract precious informations about the goats and the wolves. And if they refuse, while May risks permanent banishment, Gabu is in danger of death. None of them wants to use the other to gains some capital informations, and that's why a storm is surely preferable over this whole situation. It's even sadder when flashbacks of their first stormy night play in their heads. After all what they endured, the biggest threat has to come yet. And this one comes from their clans.
    • Talking of which, we get to see the herd of goats following this strange scene before their eyes. And even if May is considered as a traitor, we can guess that her friends and her grandmother hope that she will do what she must do to stay a member of the herd. And then, Gabu and May finally know that they just can't bring themselves to do what their clans ordered them to do and flee by jumping in the fast currents of the river. By doing that, they know that they are saying farewell to their homes, old habits and family and friends. To make things a little better and sadder at the same time, even if she knows she surely won't see her grand-daughter again, May's grandma who is powerless face to the events pray that she can be saved from the dangerous fast currents of the river, while the other goats are moping. Plus, let's not forget that Boro and Lala couldn't even talk or see Gabu for certainly the last time of their life.
  • The last episode shows us a rather realistic reaction of Tapp after the events of the previous episode : anger and hurt due to the betrayal of her ex-friend. Because Mii is sure that May will go back to them, she draw an arrow pointing the direction of where they're gone. And that's what enough to upset Tapp who angrily tells her that "this girl chose a wolf over her own herd", and that there is no way that she would ever come back. And judging by Gabu and May's decision to cross a colossal mountain to begin a new life far from their previous homes, and by the goats's idea to move out of Sawa Sawa Mountain for a safer place because they may think that the wolves now know all their habits, Tapp's right. Even if Mii doesn't believe him yet, it's only a matter of time before she finally understands that she will never see her sister's substitute again. And if there is a really slim chance that May decide too visit them, she might not be welcomed by the herd.
    • Still in the same episode, the protagonist's duo meet a young otter named Tao who, after some talks with them, decide to help them hide from the wolves who are after them. Unfortunately, the two of them weren't expecting Giro to lead the hunt, as he replaced Barry at the last second and told him to take charge of the pack. Knowing that there is no way that they will fool Giro by hiding near the river, May and Gabu have to change their plans and run away elsewhere, being forced to say farewell to Tao whom they've just met. The otter who doesn't want to be left alone begins to cry, asking who will catch fishes for them if he isn't there. Even if they still have to go, the red wolf and the white goat tells him that they might see each other again, because they are friends. At the end of the episode, we know that they might be separated from Tao for good.
    • Finally, there is the fact that this was the last episode of the series, it just ends with the two friends who are determined to go on the other side of the big snowy mountain. No real conclusion, despite all the efforts the show made to make us feel attached to the main characters. The only good thing is that we can know how it ends if we watch the movie or read the book. And the bad thing is that we won't get to see those scenes happen in the 3D series.
  • There are some hints that might imply that Gabu may have some self-esteem issues. One of them being in episode 7, when he's convinced that May would be happier with a black goat named Kuro than with him, after seeing Kuro offering her a four-leafed clover (When in reality, he helped May to find one in order to give this clover to Gabu). Because of that, he tried to end their relationship for her happiness. She didn't take it well. As the wolf said, if May didn't get hurt after their separation, they wouldn't have a chance to reconcile.
    • In episode 3, it's like the red wolf really thinks that he's a burden to his pack. Plus, the numerous scorn he has to endure from some of his packmates don't help at all. There's also the fact that he truly believed May when she made a joke about going home and not wanting to see him again if he is late for their appointment. When he indeed came late, he couldn't retain his tears from flowing by thinking he won't see her again.
    • He also regrets that he can't join the goats in their play because he's a wolf in episode 12. This poor wolf really wants to have friends.
