• In Paths Not Taken, Taylor and Suzie meet Merlin Satanspawn in the 6th century, when he's mourning for the recently-fallen King Arthur and the collapse of Camelot. Merlin sorrowfully remarks that he couldn't even cry for Arthur, because his eyes are flames that can't make tears.
• The pathetic demise of Nimue. Far from the scheming betrayer legend brands her as, she was gulled into assisting John in the ritual theft of Merlin's heart, and gave up her own life force in a futile attempt to save the unconscious sorcerer from death when the process went wrong. Merlin never knew she'd died for him, and her body was unceremoniously dumped on a rubbish pile.
