A Lady In The Lake
- Howard Crane belittles and emotionally abuses his wife, as well as cheating on her, but when it turns out she's been killed while on vacation with him, he's absolutely heartbroken.
- His mistress Joanna, who had secretly invited herself along on the vacation is similarly devastated. She never even got to meet the lady the man she loved was married to and seemed to care about in spite of cheating on her.

- As she's going through the personal belongings of the victim, Jessica reflects on how she's still grieving for Frank.Jessica: All his things. As if he was just going to walk in, put on his smock and light up his pipe. One of the hardest things about losing a husband is all the little things he leaves behind. Sooner or later, when the pain subsides... you have to put them away.
