What did I do to deserve that?
There are some genuine Tear Jerker moments in this movie even if it is for the most part about a young boy turning into a Bratty Half-Pint as he struggles to come to terms with having a younger sibling.
  • One scene depicts a photo of a smiling baby Kun with his parents then switches to present Kun withdrawing to his play tent in a huff since his parents are too preoccupied with baby Mirai to even notice him.
I'm not happy now. Kun thought.
  • In a fit of anger, Kun hitting his baby sister Mirai with one of his toy trains. Baby Mirai's eyes fill with the saddest, most tearful "What did I do to deserve that?" expression before she cries so hard.
  • Kun tearfully declaring he's not cute after Future Mirai reprimands him for giving their mother a hard time, she tries to reassure him that's not true but he's so distressed, he runs away from her.
  • Kun's mother as a child crying as she tries to apologize to her own mother for making an enormous mess, Kun initially tries to eavesdrop but is so horrified, he runs away with his hands over his ears and looking as though he's about to cry.
    • For good measure, the scene makes itself even sadder as Kun falls in a puddle as he struggles to return home through a rainstorm.
  • Kun getting upset out of fear when he tries to learn how to ride his bicycle, his father tries to console him and a bunch of older boys offer to help him but he only ends up getting more upset, especially when his father has to attend to a crying Mirai.
  • Even if he is a bit of a brat, he's only four and Kun doesn't really know how to cope with his emotions in wake of his new baby sister. One scene in particular is pretty heart-wrenching when his parents leave the house without him and he tearfully says:
Kun: Mommy loves Mirai more than me.
  • A miserable Kun riding the train to Tokyo after arguing with and disobeying his older self, he's no longer crying but he still looks really bitter, crosses over with Nightmare Fuel when he arrives in Tokyo and realizes he's lost with no way of identifying or locating his family.
  • Kun's brief Heroic BSoD when he realizes his family needs him after refusing to board the Lonely Train.
