- Brothers of the Wind: After only getting tidbits about him in the preceding novels, we find out that Hakatri, Amerasu's elder son, Ineluki's older brother, is a Cultural Rebel and Nice Guy who attempted to reign in Ineluki's dislike of mortals, and incurs a Wound That Will Not Heal in the process of helping Ineluki fulfill a rash vow to slay a great dragon. This only makes his eventual fate (resurrected via a combination of sorcery and an Ancient Artifact , on Utuk'ku's order in Empire of Grass to further her war against humankind) all the more tragic.
