Tear Jerker / Meat Loaf

Go To

  • "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad." The tale of a man who's unable to love any other girl after his one true love left him (and worse, never reciprocated his feelings in the first place). *sniff* Then on the sequel album, "Objects In The Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are" might just be even worse; It's essentially a 10-minute long Rock Opera about a man slowly losing everyone he loves in detail (with added Parental Abuse, for flavour).
  • "Bat out of Hell" has distracted driving costing a motorcyclist his life. "But I just can't stop thinking of you/And I never saw the sudden turn till it was way too late."
  • "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". Before they have sex, the girl demands that her boyfriend stay true to her after they rush into a relationship. The boy clearly has second thoughts about commitment, but because Love Makes You Dumb and he's so desperate to lose his virginity, he eventually relents and, after swearing to love her "to the end of time", he ends up trapped in a loveless marriage, "praying for the end of time". If that isn't enough, some live versions have the couple divorcing and fighting for custody over their kid.
  • "Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are" has a man deliver three different tear jerkers: His best friend Kenny who died very young, getting over abuse at the hands of a violent father, and remembering the woman who got away.
  • The music video "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" has Meat Loaf haunted by the ghost of his dead lover, who died in a car accident after storming out when he broke her heart at a masquerade ball. The shot of her lifeless arm hanging out the car door...
