Nightmare Fuel / Meat Loaf

When you pay attention to the lryics much more closely in some of Meat Loaf's songs, there are some pretty disturbing themes and concepts behind the instrumentation of them...

  • Some of the paintings which graced Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell also doubled as covers for paperback editions of H.P. Lovecraft's tales. More specifically, the one that accompanied "Objects in the Rearview Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are."
    • Turned Up to 11 with "In The Land Of The Pigs (The Butcher Is King)" on that album.
  • The gory description of the motorcycle accident in "Bat out of Hell".
  • The crumbling relationship in "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". The girl demands commitment, to which her lover eventually relents. As it becomes clear he doesn't love her, he wishes for the bitter end to come sooner. In some live versions, this escalates into the couple divorcing and arguing over custody of their kid...
    • "I'll Kill You If You Don't Come Back", if you pay attention to the lyrics, is like the epilogue to "Paradise by the Dashboard Light"; it's about the protagonist falling in love with a woman he thought was special, but she eventually turned out to be abusive towards him, and wants her to leave, but at the same time, he is still obsessed with her as well.
      • Some of the lyrics are pretty disturbing, but one that takes the cake is:
"You gave me nothing at all, now let me give it to you."
