Tear Jerker / Koroshiya Yametai

Go To

  • Rose's state of mind when at the start of the series. She's exhausted, jaded to all the killing and starting to have nightmares of how bloody her hands are.
  • In the refugee camp, Benika and Hibai encounter a thief who stabbed someone, and turn him over to the authorities. Horrified at how he'll be brutally beaten by children who are only a few years younger than him, Benika tries to speak out on his behalf, but the vigilante in charge tells her of her own traumatic past- losing her parents in war and being raped herself- and says Benika can take his place if she so desires. Benika can only slowly walk away, as the thief screams and begs for mercy.
  • Father Shirafune delivers a brief monologue about how the refugees' plight results them in turning to criminal activity, and the more well-off citizens not wanting to think about them allows Babylon to silence potential threats. He then concludes that as long as the status quo holds, Rose can't quit being a hitman.
  • Rose's employer paints a grim picture of the aftermath of the revolution. The revolution isn't meant to succeed, but to force the administration to make concessions to the rebels, allowing the church to be hailed as heroes for bringing the conflict to an end, while leaving open the possibility of more violence. Of course, the rebels are in a weak position, and Rose's employer is confident that if they assassinate key leaders, then the violence will end.
  • Rose is all too willing to allow Benika to permanently cripple or even kill her, partly out of the belief that it's the only way for Benika to be safe, and partly because she's lost hope.
Rose: You see? If this is the kind of world I must live in, leaving it by your hand is not so bad.
  • While the series ends with some hope that things might change for the better, Rose is still a hitman- despite having wanted to leave her profession for the entire story- and is still separated from Benika, possibly forever.
