Tear Jerker / George Carlin

Go To

  • As cynical as George was, the final monologue of his 1992 HBO special Jammin' in New York was absolutely moving. While these words were spoken years before his death, they come off as sort of a parting message to his audience and the world in general.

George: I believe we're part of a greater wisdom than we'll ever understand. I call it "The Big Electron." It doesn't punish, it doesn't reward, it doesn't judge at all. It just is, and so are we...for a little while. Thanks for being here with me for a little while. Take care of yourselves...and take care of somebody else.
  • The 2008 HBO special It's Bad For Ya is pretty sad to watch, given that George would be dead within a couple months.
  • Kevin Smith, who directed George in Dogma, has recounted the story of how George asked to speak to him before filming began. Smith immediately began to panic, fearing that Carlin had a problem with his role or was going to ask for more money. When they sat down, the normally voluble Carlin was acting nervous, and he proceeded to ask Kevin if, because of the recent death of his wife, would it be possible for him to put a Band-Aid over his wedding ring instead of removing it (which he wasn't ready to do yet). Smith immediately gave him the go-ahead.
