- Hina and Natsuo's relationship getting exposed and Hina being forced to abandon him without any contact. Natsuo is so despondent that he won't leave his bed or eat for several days.
- Right before that Hina goes on one last date with Natsuo knowing what she is about to be forced to do. Right before she says goodbye for the last time, she is very visibly unable to hold her composure.
- When Natsuo tracks Hina down to her new home, she lies and tells him she doesn't love him anymore so as not to ruin his future. This breaks Natsuo's heart all over again and hands back the Gold Ring that Hina bought him. Hina handles it even worse and spends her nights crying herself to sleep until she finally can't take it anymore, quits her dream career, and moves back home a few months later only to find out is too late and Natsuo is already dating her sister, Rui.
- The entire arc where Natsuo gets stabbed by Tanabe and falls into a coma. Seeing how much Natsuo meant to his family and friends and their reactions when he might never wake up results in several chapters of tears. Some highlights include:
- Hina (whom Natsuo was protecting) crying out that she wish she had died instead.
- Tsukiko in tears calling Natsuo "her only son" despite not being his true mother to showcase how much they had all become a family in the last two years.
- Natsuo's conversation with his beloved long deceased true mother where she gives him the choice to either move onto Heaven or wake up. Natsuo chooses to wake up because he knows Hina would never forgive herself if he died.
- Hina declaring that she's giving up on trying to move on from Natsuo and will dedicate her life to helping him above herself, even if it is as a sister instead of lover.
- In Chapter 215-216, Rui makes the decision to suddenly end her relationship with Natsuo without warning. Natsuo begging her not to leave him when she's the only thing he has left in his life, after already losing his ability to write, is heartwrenching.
- In Chapter 236, Serizawa finally works up the courage to tell Natsuo that she loves him after a year of having a crush on him, only to get flat out rejected. She puts on a brave face for the rest of the trip, but breaks down crying in Yuka's arms right after getting home.
- Hina getting hit by a car for revenge in her efforts to save Natsuo's career and his marriage to Rui, resulting in massive brain damage, and a life threatening coma. To make matters worse, the marriage falls apart over this incident anyways.
- Marie was the eldest son and heir of a powerful Yakuza family, but was disowned by his father when he came out as being gay. His father died a few years later without them ever making amends.
