Tear Jerker / Blue's Big Musical Movie

Go To

Blue's Big Musical Movie, intentionally or not, served as a deconstruction factor for silly and little-explored details in Blue's Clues. So don't be surprised if some moments make you feel a little blue.

  • Sidetable Drawer's subplot. After spending most of the show in the background except to give Steve his notebook, we find out that she actually wants to join in with the other characters, especially in their big music show, but is too shy to ask. This is made even worse for her as every attempt she makes to ask Steve to be part of the show, her shyness gives in and ends up accepting menial jobs Steve gives her, like collecting tickets.
    • For Sidetable, as mentioned above, when she sings her song, "Sidetable's Lament", she sings that she is not just a drawer, and can do more than just be a drawer and even sings that that fact is ignored. Ouch! Poor Sidetable.
  • Steve briefly has a Heroic BSoD when he realizes that he's never actually found a clue on his own without the viewers' help. He even sings a short song to the tune of "Sidetable's Lament" about it (the soundtrack has a different, longer song for the scene that wasn't used in the movie) before his friends encourage him to go on.
  • Throughout the film, Periwinkle misunderstands that his friends are organizing a magic show and because of Steve's distraction with the musical, he believes that they are just ignoring him. At one point he and Sidetable have a moment where they both say they understand each other's feelings about Steve not listening to them.
  • "Smart as You" Deconstructs Steve's Status as The Ditz. Here he expresses his frustrations about having attention problems and how being completely independent from other people makes him depressed. Ending with him saying that he wishes he was smart like the viewer but he probably never will be.
