- You do succeed in saving Hatty and escaping, but the hat essentially made Hatty braindead. Mom tries to hug Hatty, but nothing happens. Hatty is pretty much dead. What doesn't help is that you can clearly see Mom tearing up. The crew proceeds to throw Hatty's corpse into the water.
- It becomes Harsher in Hindsight when you consider that Pit People is an indirect sequel. Hatty's hat fired a beam of energy that killed Honey Hug the Space Bear, driving his mate Honey Kiss mad with grief, and the blood of his body warped the world beyond recognition. And when Horatio rescued his son Hansel, Honey Kiss lost what remained of his sanity, grabbed Hatty, and used the hat beam to destroy everything in the system, except Horatio and his son. By the end of it, Honey Kiss was a broken mess, floating in the empty dark of space, unable to do anything but cry.
