Tabletop Game / Empire of Satanis

Go To

Empire of Satanis is a free RPG invented by Derrick Dishaw, in which you play a Fiend — "part demon, alien and human". You live in the city of Frier, in the kingdom of K'thana (the titular Empire of Satanis) in the Yidathroth universe. Despite being the ruler of K'thana, Satanis is not the only hell-god, and the player has the potential to be one.

The game has a lot of Reality Subtext: Dishaw believed in a mix of Satanism, chaos magic and the Cthulhu Mythos, leading to him trying to place a curse on people who panned Empire Of Satanis.

This game provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Acid-Trip Dimension: The entire setting is full of weird, surreal Mind Screws. The city of Frier is explicitly described as "17th century Paris on acid."
  • Alien Blood: Fiend blood is green and venomous.
  • Bad Is Good and Good Is Bad: Being about demons pursuing demonic goals, this is probably the only game in which "you sick, sick bastard" can be used as a compliment.
  • City of Adventure: Frier, the largest city in the Fiend realm of Yidathroth, is intended to be a place the players can run campaigns, go back to, pick ups supplies from and do other useful stuff.
  • Classical Movie Vampire: The Schmekbluts resemble pale, fanged men with red eyes.
  • Druid: The Blazht are an entire race of demonic druids.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Satanis himself, along with several other hellish gods such as Drekth-crom "god of things that lurk in the gloom of the hideous twilight" and Toola-vra "god of nonsense and childish amusement".
  • Eldritch Location: The city of Frier is described as "17th century Paris on acid".
  • Hollywood Natives: The game contains two races of jungle-dwelling savages, the Kurur-esh and the Malahko, as well as the Kanaima, a race of devil insect witch doctors.
  • Hollywood Voodoo: In this setting, voodoo is not a religion but instead consists of cutting off limbs and using them to magically wound people.
  • Hot Skitty-on-Wailord Action: Implied by the existence of human-Fiend hybrids, seeing as the races include toad-infested trees and praying mantises who fly through space.
  • Mad Scientist: The Zeph n'Glarl are an entire race whose hat is performing macabre science.
  • Master Race: The Fiends believe themselves to be superior to all other species.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: Several of the races, such as the Kanaima (who are devil insect witch doctors) and the Sairmenow (who are are dragonlike subterranean swamp-dwelling Voodoo Zombies)
  • Our Demons Are Different: Here, demons are a race of Nietzcheans who make war on other planets and worship Satanis.
  • Our Dwarves Are All the Same: The Dourge are typical underground, craftsman fantasy dwarves but IN HELL!
  • Our Monsters Are Weird: Many of the races of Fiends are really strange, such as the Zibza, who resemble black trees covered in toad heads.
  • Our Zombies Are Different: The Sairmenow are "draconic, troglyditic swamp zombies" who create magic puppets and have out-of-body experiences.
  • Purple Prose: Oh yes. Combined with all the bizarre names, reading this can be quite a challenge.
  • Rage Against the Heavens: Implied by The Smile, who were turned into their grotesque form for criticising God. The players are encouraged to tear down the deities of other worlds.
  • Resurrective Immortality: Fiends only stay dead for 1 to 3 months.
  • Vampires Are Sex Gods: The Schmekbluts are a vampire race who like to have sex.
  • Villain Protagonist: While the text tries to insist that Fiends have a "master morality", the bottom line is that Fiends are megalomaniacs who perform evil acts for advancement to godhood so they can be even more evil.
  • Writers Cannot Do Math: The text says that there are "a million worlds full of a billion Fiend-hating scum" which would mean each planet has only 1000 inhabitants. Downplayed Trope as, while not an inaccuracy, it`s still very implausibly low.
  • Writing Around Trademarks: Void sabers are lightsabers in all but name.
