- Mimic hides himself and Rusty from a pair of umber hulks by morphing into a very familiar-looking painting. (One of the umber hulks comments on how the painting's eyes seem to follow you.)
- Mimic tells Princess his theory that most villains are either a "Sauron" or a "Skeletor".
- Calamitus announces the attack of his giant golden golem with "Say hello to my glittered friend!"
- On his first encounter with Derek's rhyming prophecies, Mimic wonders if he's on Dr. Seuss's Candid Camera.
- When Plaidbeard uses the Belt of Genre Changing, the strip runs in rapid succession through references to King Kong, Sailor Moon, Pokémon, Rob Liefeld, Alien, Star Wars, The Fifth Element, and Gamera.
- One "critical missives" features the Princess in The Order of the Stick-stick figure style.
- Being elves, the Pixie Chicks are counting in Elvish Tengwar.
- Chapter 4 has "And it turned into a ballroom blitz" after the man in the back said "Everyone: attack." As a matter of fact, his eyes are red as the sun.
- In this strip Cube's guitar actually goes up to eleven. And his amps are labeled with the brand name Martial.
- Prestige's color spray spell creates the sound-effect "Vance!"
- "So why's this called the Munchkin dungeon, anyway?"
- Prestige Perkins tries to open a door by reading a magic chant from a scroll that should sound very familiar to fans of Lady Gaga.
- When Prestige drinks a strength potion, her forearms bulge like those of a certain cartoon character.
- When Cube shows up wielding a pair of doors, one character calls him Charlton Heston.
- Cube appears as a wandering ronin with a pram in the beginning of Level 6.
- Madeline's vorpal halberd (or shovel) goes "snickersnack" when cutting off a remorhaz head (though only "LOP!" for a vampire one).
- In Chapter 6, the heroes have a passing encounter with a xorn who took a wrong turn at Abeir-Toril.
- The vampire siblings are called "Ezra" and "Koenig". While these can be seen as ironic hipster names, Ezra Koenig is an actual person, the frontman of Vampire Weekend.
- Hipster vampire Koenig tells his sister to "Release the Kraken!"
- Said Kraken likes to play with puppets and wants to have his own show on educational television.
- Mimic has a brief encounter with a bugbear that throws pies and says "Wocka wocka wocka!"
- The Bottle Fairy asking the riddle is an obvious Expy of Navi, down to repeating the infamous "Hey! Listen!" verbatim. And when the door opens, the notes that are present on screen are that of the Zelda door opening theme, just to add to it.
- In strip 38 of level 6, Mimic is apparently trying to come up with an answer to "Why is a raven like a writing desk?".
- Y.T. gives Ezra the following line: "Y'all gotta ask yourself one question, Do I feel lucky? Well, Do ya, Punk?"
- Prestige tries to bluff a derro with "We're fine! We're all fine, here now. Thank you. How are you?"
- Near the end of Level 7, Stabs rides on Slobber's shoulders, saying "Who rule Barter Town!?" in a perfect imitation of Master Blaster.
- Golden Gus is a shout-out to Real Life lawyer Augustus Golden, who defended Rusty and Co. in a nasty legal controversy (see Screwed by the Lawyers on the trivia page).
- The judge and his bewildered look in the same strip may also be familiar to fans of courtroom antics.
- Roxanne, as the announcer for the gnomish baseball game, opens with "Hellooo ladies and gentlemen, Wizards & Warriors, Mutants & Masterminds, and all the ships at 7th Sea!"
- One of the participating teams in the Gnomish baseball game are The Swingwraiths, led by the immortal Pitch King. It only takes one swing to rule the ball!
- At Dorilys's arrival at the Hook, the halfling Kris describes her as a "jolly green giant"; unsurprisingly, she describes it as a wretched hive of scum and idiocy.
- In a comic taking place mostly in the dark, the Alt Text assures us that no-one was eaten by a grue.
- After Jumping Out of a Cake, Anti-Madeline sings to Malevolus "Happy birthday, prison resident", clearly to the tune of "Happy Birthday, Mr. President".
- To Goofus and Gallant: The Alt Text of Level 8: #167:Goofus shakes the powerful, mind-blanking artifact until he gets what he whats. Goofus #2 makes a lot of noise while flapping about uselessly.
- Princess asks for buff spells before jumping to the fray; among them, a stoneskin spell that makes her look quite like The Thing, and her battle cry is "It's COLLABORATIN' Time!" (Meanwhile, Presti's way of flying strongly reminds of Iron Man).
- Stabs doing endorsement for cleats at the end of Level 8 is done in the style of The Most Interesting Man in the World.
- Chapter 9 has Rusty, Madeline and Y.T. investigating a hotel run by formians (i.e. extraplanar ant-people). The chapter title is "Hotel Califormian", and the chapter is chock-full of references to the song lyrics (too many to list them all individually).
- Stabs calls Anti-Madeline "Wario":Anti-Madeline: Oh, "Wadeline," I get it now. It's like a Mario/Wario thing. That's clever, but I still hate you.
- In "Castle Life", the derro invaders (Dog Town, Blood Bath, Rib Cage, Soft Tail...) are named after the lyrics from "By the Way" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
