This page contains unmarked spoilers. You Have Been Warned!

This page covers Shout-Outs for the crossover fanfic Jaune Arc, Lord of Hunger.

  • When Jaune first encounters an Alpha Beowolf in the prologue, the narration draws inspiration from Eminem's song "Lose Yourself" and paraphrases its lyrics while describing the panic Jaune feels in that moment.
Eminem:His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy... There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti
Narrator: His knees became weak, his palms sweaty, he wanted to vomit out the leftover spaghetti he ate for breakfast.
  • Jaune initially assumes that a Grimm's vision is limited to movement because he saw it in a movie about a Grimm theme park.
  • After escaping the Alpha Beowolf by squeezing through a crevice, Jaune worries about "getting pinned by some rocks and starving to death" and having to cut off a limb to escape like in the movie 172 Hours, a reference to the biographical survival film 127 Hours.
  • While removing the Mask of Darth Nihilus from its container, Jaune briefly worries that the box is booby trapped like in the movies about a "whip-wielding archaeologist that searched for ancient artifacts during the Great War."
  • It's mentioned in Chapter 3 that one of Jaune's favorite movies is centers around the adventures of the archaeologist Indigo Jones.
  • Ren's "Knowing yourself is the beginning of a wisdom" line from Chapter 4 is a phrase originally coined by Aristotle.
  • In "Control", Jaune purchases cans of soda from a vending machine while talking with Pyrrha about Oobleck's class. The cans have the soda brand "People Like Grapes" printed on them. "People Like Grapes" was a joke first used by Gavin Free on Rooster Teeth Animated Adventures, which later became popular enough for Rooster Teeth to start selling t-shirts featuring the phrase on their online store.
  • When Jaune attempts to ask Weiss out on a date to the movie theaters in Chapter 6, he mentions a new Sylver Stallone film he would like to see with her called Rainbow: Last Blood.
  • The Bullhead performing the Gunship Rescue at the end of Chapter 7 is designated Four-Seven-Niner and its pilot's name is Ash.note
  • In a later AN, the author describes Ash's personality as being similar to that of Ashe from Overwatch: confident and snarky, but professional at the same time.
  • The hospital scene in Chapter 8 where Jaune wakes up while a nurse is unknowingly giving him Marshmallow Hell references the beginning of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
  • The first thing that Professor Peach says to Jaune is "You're awake...How 'bout that." This is also Doc Mitchell's first line to the Courier during the tutorial of Fallout: New Vegas.
  • In "Satiation", Mercury mutters "Aww crapbaskets" when he sees Jaune catch and reverse his barrage of missiles.
  • While giving Cinder his opinion on Jaune, Mercury paraphrases the Sniper from Team Fortress 2 when he gives the "professionals have standards" speech and describes Jaune as the type of guy "who'll bludgeon his wife to death with a golf trophy".
  • While attacking the Grimm during the Breach, Nora roars "NORA SMASH!"
  • Drake & Josh, of all things, gets referenced in Chapter 13 during this exchange between Mercury and Cinder, which copies a near identical conversation between Drake and Josh in the Season 4 episode "Josh Runs Into Oprah".
Mercury: Is it because of the Arc boy?
Cinder: No, it's because it's a little humid. YES IT'S BECAUSE OF THE ARC BOY!
  • While bringing up the theory that Jaune is a crossdressed Maiden, Mercury quotes Sherlock Holmes from the 1890 short story The Sign of the Four.
Mercury: I mean, if you eliminate the impossible, what's left, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.
Cinder: Thank you, detective. Your insight is SO deeply valued.
  • While recovering in the hospital after being injured during the Breach, Pyrrha watches an episode of X-Ray & Vav on her TV.
  • After Jaune supercharges Nora with his Force Lightning during JNPR's round against BRNZ in the Vytal Tournament, Nora screams "KILL! MAIM! BURN!", which was the Catchphrase of Khârn the Betrayer from Warhammer 40,000.
  • In "Gnawing", Ruby notices that Jaune is brooding and mentions how he looks like Zwei "that one time [Zwei] accidentally ate grapes". This is a reference to the "Dogs Hate Grapes" t-shirt, which was based of the above mentioned "People Likes Grapes" meme started by Gavin Free.
  • Church, Tex, Delta, and Omega from Red vs. Blue make an appearance in "Legends" as a team of mercenary droids.
  • The ship flown around by Church's team is called the Mother of Invention, which was the name of the UNSC frigate used by Project Freelancer as their mobile headquarters in Red vs. Blue.
  • While being held at gunpoint by Sando's gang, Church deadpans "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"
  • While resisting the influence of the Mask of Nihilus, Alix roars out that "Loyalty...is its own reward", quoting Lion El'Johnson from Warhammer 40,000.
  • General Ironwood's operational second-in-command is revealed to be a man named Donald Doyle, which was also the name of the Federal Army of Chorus's leader in Red vs. Blue.
  • While briefly recounting the time he spent with the Atlesian Naval Commandos, Ironwood uses the phrase "slow is smooth, smooth is fast", a saying used by the Navy SEALs in real life.
  • Nihilus trying to fry Penny with Force Lightning, only to accidentally supercharge her power to 400% is a reference to The Avengers (2012), where Thor does the exact same thing to Iron Man's armor during their fight in the woods.
  • The scene where Ozpin, Pyrrha, Ironwood, and Glynda work together to restrain Darth Nihilus while Penny tries to remove his mask is reminiscent of the Battle on Titan from Avengers: Infinity War where Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and the Guardians of the Galaxy try to remove the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos's hand.
