Joey's Room
- Joey is a proper Eighties/Nineties Kid — she has toys from Rainbow Brite, The Snorks, Popples, and The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin in her room, plus a pogo-ball.
- There's a game poster on the wall for a game called Second Mom; when you try to use the pet treats on it, it mentions that instead of killing the monsters you can befriend them.
- This one's especially notable: EarthBound was one of the key inspirations for Homestuck.
- Joey has a poster on her wall featuring a "Bounty Hunter" that looks suspiciously like Samus.
- Joey is a huge fan of Ginger Rogers, and has a poster of her on the wall.
- Another of her posters is The Star by Edgar Degas.
- Over her bed, Joey has a poster of Clarissa, and will frequently comment on how cool she is when items are used on it.
- Attempting to use the diary key on Joey's computer results in her wishing that she could keep an online "living journal", but writing it off as impossible.
- The suit of armour in the basement looks like Undyne's from Undertale. She also notes when looking at one of her posters how lovely a game where you could befriend monsters instead of fighting them would be.
Alternia
- One of the posters on Dammek's wall seems to be for Alternian Idiot by the band Green Blood.
- Trizza's commissioned portraits of herself as Bob Ross (lower left corner) and CATS (bottom).
- The password Joey accidentally shows Xefros is mrstaylorthomas80, which is likely a reference to Jonathan Taylor Thomas, who is best known for playing Randy Taylor and voicing young Simba. Also, the password-as-asterisks conversation is a reference to this old IRC prank.
- Using the various items in Xefros's inventory on the
discshexagons on his table reveals that he owns the box set for an Alternian version of 24.
Other
- The monsters from the beginning of the game are confirmed shout outs to Attack the Block.
- In the first fight with the Serpent, one of the possible pairs of flavor text that can appear when Joey tap-dances at the Serpent are "The Room Where It Slappens" and "Disobedient Serpent".
- Jude's carrier pigeons are called 'the Lone Gunbirds,' and their names are Langly, Frohike and Byers. Fitting for a Conspiracy Theorist.
- The name of the achievement you get when you first play as Jude? >NA NA NA NA, HEY YOU
- You can find a copy of Haze in the same box that Jude keeps his flare gun.
- In Joey's living room interacting with the TV makes her think of her favorite show characters like Clarissa (as mentioned in her room), Alex Mack, and "that green chick from ReBoot" which likely refers to Dot Matrix.
