Shout Out / Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

Go To

  • Goliath is basically a boss-monster-ified Raoh, even reenacting his dying pose. Which makes him another classic Jump villain like Zephyr to appear in the series.
  • The requisite Gradius shout out occurs three times:
    • One of the villagers hums the first few notes of "Challenger 1985", the BGM of the first stage of the original Gradius/
    • The Vic Viper itself is a collectible item.
    • One of the bosses summons Moai heads as temporary platforms. Don't destroy them or you won't survive the waterfall attack.
  • The "Grave Digger" enemy looks a lot like The Undertaker, and another enemy, the Mad Butcher, is Leatherface in all but name.
  • Two returning enemies from Symphony of the Night are references to the main characters of The Wizard of Oz: The Axe-wielding tin robots and impaled-corpse scarecrows. However, the enemy based on the Lion has been omitted this time.
  • The quest that has you retrieve a gem for one of the villager's cat is named Tom and Jewelry.
  • The wind-based Pneuma glyph, which allows Shanoa to perform Geese Howard's signature attack, the Reppuken. Dual-wieding this glyph can even bring out both the Double Reppuken, by firing both in quick succession, and the Raging Storm special, via Glyph Union!
  • Dracula, meanwhile, channels Omega Rugal in his "walk menacingly in one direction while attacking with high kicks" phase (plus he's also voiced by Norio Wakamoto).
  • Albus's Quadruple Ignis kick is uncannily similar to Fei Long's Shienkyaku, both being spinning high kicks on fire.
  • Order of Ecclesia continues the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure references with the boss Blackmore. Not only does he attack Shanoa with an invisible entity that is only visible by its shadow to her, almost like a Stand in itself, he poses flamboyantly and dresses loudly like a true JoJo character. His name is even a music reference - he’s named after Ritchie Blackmore, an English musician, well-known for his work with the band Deep Purple. Which, coincidentally, is the color that makes up most of his color scheme. Finally, the reason why Shanoa bests him? His stand's shadow, cast by the candles in the foreground, betrays its existence to Shanoa, who promptly attacks it, causing the damage dealt to synchronize to him with deadly effect.
  • After The Reveal that Barlowe is actualy a worshipper of Dracula, his name becomes one to the similarly named character Kurt Barlow in Stephen King's novel 'Salem's Lot.
