Shout Out / Botania

Go To

It's a known fact that the guy who made the Minecraft mod Botania is an Otaku, so it's not surprising that they filled it with references, so much so that at least a quarter of the Lexica Botania's entries contain one each, and in earlier versions it was a vast majority. As such, do not list references contained within Lexica Botania entries or Flavor Text unless they're still present in 1.16 or connected to a reference that the relevant item itself makes.

  • Among the cosmetic baubles you can equip, we have;
  • An item one can find is the Black Lotus, referencing one of the most famous ''Magic the Gathering'' cards. When used on a mana pool, it can give a decent amount of mana for free, a reference to the card's ability to give 3 mana for free.
  • The player can create the Brew of Vanity's Emptiness, which disables mob spawning around the affected entity. It's probably named after the Yu-Gi-Oh! card of the same name with a similar effect.
  • The name of the Biscuit of Totality, a food item made by infusing a cookie with mana which completely restores the Hunger Meter and saturation when eaten, is a reference to The Cynical Brit, with its entry flavor text – "A total space biscuit" – referring to how he specifically said both in a stream and in a tweet that he's called TotalBiscuit, not "Total, space, Biscuit".
  • The Flame Chakram weapon is clearly modeled after Axel's weapon of choice in Kingdom Hearts II.
  • The Key of the King's Law is a late-game relic that summons an array of golden weapons that fly towards your target and explode, not unlike Gilgamesh's Gate of Babylon from Fate/stay night.
  • The sword made from terrasteel is called the Terra Blade and is directly modeled after the weapon from Terraria of the same name. It can also shoot Sword Beams like its inspiration.
    • Its entry ends with the flavor text "No Broken Hero Sword". The Broken Hero Sword is a crafting ingredient for the Terra Blade in Terraria.
    • Two upgrades for the Terra Blade exists – one of them is the Starcaller, modeled after the Starfury from the same game, its entry ending in the text "Caller, fury, whatever". In a similar vein, the other upgrade, the Thundercaller, is modeled directly after World of Warcraft's Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker, and its entry ends in "Blessed Blade of the Trade Chat".
  • The Rod of the Shaded Mesa has similar effects to the Gravity Gun, being able to pick up entities and throw them. It even looks like it, and the name and entry reference Black Mesa from the same game.
  • The Shard of Laputa, capable of turning landmass into floating islands, is based on Sheeta's necklace from Castle in the Sky and named after the titular floating castle appearing in said anime, Laputa.
  • Most of the advancements added by the mod seem to be named after Vocaloid songs.
  • While elven trade is usually consequence-free aside from the mana cost for successful trades and the loss of untradeable items, teleporting bread through the Alfheim portal causes an explosion, which breaks the portal and may break nearby equipment.
  • The creative mode-only Everlasting Guilty Pool is a reference to the second OP of Guilty Crown. Its tooltip references the band that made the song.
  • The Tiny Planet is a reference to the item of the same name from The Binding of Isaac, even having a similar effect of making certain projectiles orbit around it.
  • In a more meta example, older versions of the mod parodied Thaumcraft's Warp mechanic with a lexicon entry called "Wrap", which extremely vaguely describes a mechanic called such, not going into any detail beyond calling it weird and describing its effects as "probably something bad :/".
  • Mana Pylons can be built and are used in the construction of the portal to Alfheim and the Mana Enchanter. The lexicon recommends that you Construct Additional Pylons.
  • The Flavor Text for the Loonium, a flower that generates dungeon loot, is "Hold it above your head."
  • The flavor text in the Lexica Botanica for tall mystical flowers, which give double the normal amount of petals, is "Prepare for trouble".
